I have had a hx402 on my truck for 15 month's now and have had no problems. I have put some miles towing and city drive. I love it. My truck has no tune. To control the boost I have a GM 3bar sensor and the factory vacuum waste gate. I run 14-15 psi.
On my truck with a 13000 lbs trailer cruising at 65 my engine temp was at 195 to 200. This was with ac on and outside temperature was upper 90s. The egts were around 7-800 and going over mountain passes would hit 1150 before I backed off. I have a remote trans cooler so the trans never got over 190.
I am all for this. I know that there are easier engines to get the power out of but the 6.5 has potential. Has anyone tried main bearing studs with the stock crank? I have just finished school as a diesel tech and one thing that I remember about breaking mains and crankshafts is due to flex. so...
I have a flex light electric pusher that i installed in my truck to help the a/c out. It works great. 12" pusher will fit with the stack in place. Still have the oil cooler and trans-cooler in the same places.
You can always try. I know the gm 3 has a different setup than the 5 because i have compared them before. Also I was taking with bill about the turbos and he told me that the gm 5 was fine to run with the performance tune.
GM still makes a 4L diesel. Just not in this country. That is our wonderful EPA that has done that. This is a link to the Australian Holden (GM) site and the new 2.8 Duramax. http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/colorado/performance
When I pulled a friends 6.5 out we remove the radiator and the just took the front tires off and set the truck on the ground with some wood blocks under the lower ball joint. this allowed us to take the engine out without removing any of the front support and grille.
