Resurecting New Engine

On the older trucks its mounted on the firewall, looks like a rectangle door bell button, then the brake pedal arm hits it and pushes it in, or maybe thats for the clutch, cant remember it was on my old 94 im thinkin of...

On my 96 (sig truck) the white rectangle switch on the pedal.........Could be it's missing, but no wires, plugs nothing.

BTW when the truck is live, (powered up) brake lights are "ON"

Batteries are currently disconected.

Ok, put the junk heads back on with the reinz head gaskets and flushed it WELL. Here are the pics... The nasty turd lookin like thing is the block heater.... Th eoil on the floor was from a week and a half of the truck being broke down...

I had to punch all the soft plugs out, it was just bad. It had a thick covering all over the bottom, i think it took me over an hour of flushing...

I dont know if id call it quite pee, it was very "chunky".
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
EDIT:
Oh matt thats you!! Took me a second to figure it out.... I was like who the heck is this?? That name looks like someone else i know!! LOL. Im sure someone can help ya out...

Ok, waiting for the pistons to come in from Leroy. Hopefully the bearings arent worn real bad, i hope i can just replace the piston heads and call her a day. We will see... Stay tuned...

Pistons are on the way (in about an hour), emailed tracking info last night.

Also, you need to potty train that truck.

I got a list together for my next buying spree of parts. As soon as i get the two new used pistons in.
1. Squirter block oil pump & pickup screen.
2. 130gpm water pump.
3. 180 Degree robert shaw t-stats.
4. Timing chain.

Wow. The goo covered block heater element pic is good motivation to drain/flush/& change coolant at some reasonable time intervals.

FWIW, drilling the block, tapping, & threading in a drain plug that's accessible with the engine in the truck will make for more complete draining of the old coolant. Now's the time to do that w/ the engine out, if you want.

It's also handy to use a holesaw to open a passage for the radiator/petcock drain. Kennedy's site has an FAQ on this. I did it & attached a short chunk of tubing. This makes draining coolant from the rad a clean & easy process.

Ok, been away for a while trying to figure out my next step. I couldnt use the pistons i got from Leroy. So in partnership with Rich have figured out a solution. He had a set of 6.5 pistons from the 599 block he had, and we managed to find one in very good condition compared to my badly burnt #8. I am going to leave #5 alone, the pitting is VERY minimal and seems to be there on a lot of pistons i have seen. SO i am only going to replace the #8 slug. So currently i am awaiting to have the piston bestown upon me for the delivery dude. Today i ordered a oil pump and pickup from the parts store for a 98 6.5 diesel, this will enable me to get the higher volume oil pressure. I am going to pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully this weekend i can get the piston replaced. That is the main thing holding me back. I also got some tools when i went to the Syracuse Nationals. Ring taker offer tool (sorry dont know the correct names for them right now), Slug and ring putter back inner tool, and a few other things i may need.

Well got the pan off today. Also got the piston from ratman today. I am going to "try" and install the piston tomorrow. Here are the pics form today, the one with the vacuum was a home made piece, i still have tons of crud in my cooling system, so i scraped and sucked it out, i am going to flush it one more time before it goes in the truck...

Ok got the piston in, and here arew the pics, look at the gaps in the piston rings, why are they so close? This engine must have had blowby with a straight shot like that. So i rotated the bottom ring 180 degrees.
