Resurecting New Engine

The only way it can be done is you will need to buy a special $1000 tool :joke:

I just eyeballed it. Book said the HB mark will line up with one of the water pump bolts. I forget wicth one, I will check the SM and let you know.

Thank you, im prolly going to be taking my heads off this weekend, im still contemplating on taking the ip off of the timing chain cover.... I really should buy the gmtdscan, but im afraid i will screw it up, how hard is it to adjust the ip with a dual thermostat crossover? I am also contemplating on using my non h/o ip because i know it has been rebuilt 3 years ago. The one on the new engine is the h/o, but i also have the computer for it. But it looks kinda crusty.... And another question is if i do get the heads milled, am i still going to be able to set the rockers to 40 foot pounds? Wont it ride different on the rocker with "less" head in beween it???

OK, worked on it again last night, i will post pictures tonight after work (about 5:30)... I removed all the gps and ended up pulling out #8 and it was covered in oil. I hope its just from the engine being tipped back that way, it was not gummy or anything, so i think it just leaked down over time. This makes me really want to do a valve job on the heads. Ok, im going to treat this kinda like a poll, who thinks i should use my current i/p that has been rebuilt about three years ago, and who thinks i should use the h/o i/p that came with the new engine. THe h/o i/p looks a little crusty, im worried about it going a few years down the road.....

Here are some more pics. I ran into some oil in cyl. # eight. So im definately getting the valve job done. I think its from sitting at an odd angle in a tractor trailer tire.

very clean gear shot at that. When i did my water pump the gears had oil on them.

How long since the new engine's been run? any idea? you may want to make sure the cooling system is clean, i can see rust/grime on the cooling passages in your gear photo. it's much easier to check it now. backflush w/ a gardenhose and a hot water source perhaps once the IP gear cover is back in place.

There's a harbor freight store not to far from here. I've never been there but that may change soon.

The 5068 IP looks like it's been out in the weather with all that rust on the steel parts. id sell it and the ECM as a combo if you aren't going to use it. It does have the new style fuel shutoff solenoid with the bolt head instead of the allen head, so maybe it's not as old as it looks? Either that or the Fuel shutoff has been changed.

We had to find the biggest stand we could for our monstorous engines):h. Its held a 455, a 6.5, and will hold a 351 this winter.... Dave my engine has not been run in almost 2 years, that was the only downfall of the whole situation... That is why im going to get a valve job done, so they can dip the heads in whatever that acid is, so they will come out looking brand new. SO i will only have to clean up the block the best i can. Im going to take out all of the freeze plugs and look inside to see how it is. I want all new stuff on this engine anyways for rust issues. Im going to try an paint it up nice, but i think rust protection will come first and i will slobber everything with neversieze and grease..... When i bought the engine it was actually sitting in someoned basement, and it was kinda damp down there... Anyone have any ideas on how to clean the coolant passages up without dis-assembling the bottom of the block... WHen i took that gear out i didnt even get oily!! It was bone dry... Pretty much everything up top was bone dry but i drained the oil and there was nothing foreign in it. So im sure it must be from sitting for so long.....

These are the pics of the roller 351w i got out of the lightning....
I love the tubular intake, its worth some serious money. might sell it for a trick flow r kit....
