New Holland L35 skid steer loader revival

Just a couple small things.

I found the throttle lever pieces that I had sandblasted 5 years ago. Those got some yellow paint on them.

Then I “rebuilt” the choke rod. I couldn’t remove the knob from the old rod, so I cut the rod and welded the stub on a new rod.

A few items today. First was assembling the throttle control. Originally the control had a cork washer in between the two pieces to allow them to slide past each other. I didn’t have any cork, but I did have some ABS plastic, so I made a washer out of that. Then I rummaged in my spring bin and found a spring that would work. It worked nice so I installed it. As you can see, there’s still plenty of rust on the machine. It think as long as I call it a “rat steer” or “skid rat” I’m ok ;)

I played around with the throttle linkage and realized the next step was actually to install the heat shield. It fit pretty well for a piece I made from scratch.

I needed a clevis end for the throttle linkage. Of course no local store had one today....so I made one. A coupler nut and some steel strip and I had a clevis. I went a little crazy with the grinder, but since I don’t have a TIG I wasn’t pleased with how it looked after welding.

Last step was to throw some paint on the throttle and choke linkages.

I don’t want to jinx myself, but if I can get the throttle and choke controls all buttoned up tomorrow, I think I can put the engine in this thing!!!

Looking at your Tahoe build and this skid steer build, You need to become a GM engineer. What you can come up with on the spot is better than what GM and most other companies comes up with with years of research and development.

Thanks Jaryd. :)

I don’t know if I jinxed myself or what, but 2 hours later and the heat shield and throttle linkage are finally installed. I should have test fit everything before painting. I didn’t because I thought I was just replicating the factory engineered stuff, but what a major pain. I should have re-engineered it. I scraped a ton of paint off, trimmed some sheet metal, trimmed the end of the jack shaft and threw some colorful words around......but now it’s finally in and working. 24E2C1C7-A184-4222-9BAC-7E9E84FCF5E9.jpeg1B25024F-0AA4-46D7-BA9B-9F0E5CAF43D1.jpegD412D706-364F-4927-A709-5A0C90436889.jpeg9C00A9A9-E554-4E8C-9D60-7D42F2577F1E.jpeg

Now let’s see if I can get the engine sitting in this thing yet today.

Ok, the engine is in. I got it bolted down, but not much progress beyond that. Now that I reached the goal for the weekend I’m kind of at a loss for what to work on next. I think I’m going to mount the alternator next. When I bought the machine, it had been adapted to a different V4 - the guy I bought it from kept the engine, which was fine since it was underside, but the point is that I don’t have the original alternator mounting brackets. I’m going to have the alternator that came with the machine tested to make sure it’s good - if it is, then I’ll make the bracket to fit this alternator since it does appear to be the correct alternator for this machine. If it isn’t good, then I’ll weigh options of having it fixed or adapt a car alternator. 0A20EB67-7FF6-4E79-A908-59F304B0360F.jpegD85AD9F6-9B2C-4A95-91DD-3FEB44F0D2BC.jpegCFFF63C2-325F-4693-A472-EB0774C4CAD2.jpegC79FFEFA-1236-4F1E-B495-907A9F21B3C1.jpeg
