A Team Turbo A Year Later

My HX35 screams so loud at 140 it feels like there is pressure in your ears. My one girl friend came for a ride and said " How do you drive with all this noise??!!" it put a big smile on my face lol

Having Fun..!!

Should have posted this months ago.

On our way back from Italy driving through Germany, I had this Big Fat Mercedes up to my bum - per for a few miles, we were fully loaded in the Burb, 42 gallons, 3 adults, bla, bla, on the Autobahn with a max speed limit of a 120 Km,(74.5 miles) an hour.

Sights a head along tiring hill of about 6-8%, I slowly put my foot down remembering I have The Viking Wife as the back sit driver and the 69 yr. old guy beside me that's had a heart condition we were travelling at 180 Km,(112 miles) an hour,, and the Burb still wanted more, and more, we slowed down at the top and eventually the Mercedes drove passed, giving me a persecution complex, with the thought, Hmmm!! what's under his Hood.... :hihi:

My thoughts were to keep my wits about me at the time, eyes on the road & speed not thinking to see what the boost was or any other details, so sorry, next time...

I know the feeling, one question though, did you give them a little diesel hazing when they were up close. I love summer time when the windows are down or the air is going full blast. Watching them suck up a little diesel haze then slow way down to get away from the truck.

By the way what would it have cost you if the authorities had intervened? I have heard it is expensive on the autobahn. Good to hear from you.

Yes I'm sure they sucked in some "Purple Haze"....authorities Hmm! not really a word I like to know to much about or how much $$, should have waited for 120 Km sign with a line thru it, no speed limit.

Here I'm not suppose to go over 49.7 miles on the motorway..Missed the driving awards when I was in the US to.

These pix are from last year on a flat road, except the road sign that indicates there's no speed limit to a certain extent.

So just pull it back & stretch her out. then get some more "go go juice." :D

Very nice, sadly in the US we don't have the opportunity to stretch our legs like that, legally that is:skep:

Lol, Yeah who needs Heath! We can do that with a chip and a turbo! :hihi:

I wonder who has hit the highest speed with their truck. I have been at 110 with my 4.10 ratio five speed and the ATT, Gets kind of scary to get that much iron moving that fast. The only real scary part is if someone else makes a mistake. So it was a lonely stretch of interstate early in the morning. Just hoping the deer were not moving around, talk about deer burgers.

I have hit 130mph with my ATT and 3.42 gears and still had life in her, but PCM hits a wall there, unless you fool it with a modded VSSB to think youre going slower. Stock progams hit that limiter right before 100mph. It is a bit scary, but the truck sounds surprisingly great at that point with an ATT, the mirrors swing in around 110mph though. I'm pretty sure TD has come up on the limiter too.

I've bumped 120 with my BURB and the DMAX, and it was surprisingly smooth at that speed. I limited mine to 120 in the tune as I don't need to be going that fast anyways.

Well I have not had the mirrors fold in but, then again there is a big difference between 110 and 130 mph. My truck did run exceptionally smooth at 100 plus, just don't want any surprises.

Now a theoretical question. If we have the 6.5 modded out with the exhaust, turbo (A-Team Turbo) and fuel program, do we hit a limit that the pre chamber opening can disperse the flame front in an efficient manner. Is this, (the) or (a) limiting factor in the power output at higher engine rpms? If we open them to big do we lose lower end power and fuel efficiency Just a WAG (Wild Ars Guess), or do we need more advance (earlier fuel injection event) to get the fuel ready to burn when we hit the flash point.

I am not sure on the precups, but I have the original stock "S" L56 engine with small openings. I wont say I fully understand the precup dynamics and directional forces, but I always thought that a cupped piston would make more sense if going for lower compression. Like Kennedy did with his custom lower compression pistons. It makes more surface area for the force to push on, instead of going to the top ring.

I am not sure what GM had in mind with differnt sized precups. Perhaps the smaller ones are supposed to provide more directional sustained force, and the larger precups give more force at peak torque angle shortly after TDC if it allows faster expansion. Larger precups may be a way to get higher torque. But we also have these power programs with a lot more fuel than GM designed, which can take more time to combust.

If my memory from 28 yrs ago is correct the smaller pre cup opening give a cleaner burn. That would likely be why it is used on the emissions engine.
