Loaded up the truck with a few things to head down to El Mirage for the first 2025 SCTA land speed racing event.
Clothing and other spares along with recovery tools were in the cab.
I don't have the engine details or I'd post more details in the 'Other Diesels' forum but, the LSR I crew chief on is a 1980 1.5L Diesel VW Scirocco "truck" engine. It's got lots of mods to allow it to thrive at around 62-6500 RPM and makes about 300hp. Here's a some pictures of this weekend's attempt at setting a dirt course, 1 mile record in his engine/body style class.
The last four pictures are credited to: Church of Speed
143mph was the goal and, on the one pass we got (1st actual clean pass for the car) he went through the timing gate at 126. Course ran out and he was only in third gear. Rear gearing change, and truck push off adjustments get him there but, Nature is a Mother and 30mph winds stopped us from trying again. Maybe next month....

Back in the, about, mid 70s, I was selling on the road for a local candy, tobacco, Frito Lays distributorship.
A little town to the south east, Ekalaka Montana, a little old lady over there was telling me she bought a new car, a Volkswagen Scirocco.
I never did see the car but for being in Her latter portion of 70s she was sure having fun with that car.

Last weekend my wife was camping and geocaching in Broadus, MT. I looked it up and Broadus is a town of 435 people. There is nothing out there. She thought about going to Wibaux and getting a pic of her and our dog Wibaux under the Welcome to Wibaux sign. Again there is literally nothing there.
