Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

The Time-Serts arrived and they worked just fine.

A little different in style/construct but they threaded in as hoped.
The Senmmonn inserts have a wider lip than the Time-serts and, having already prepared the intake for the Senmmonns, the Time-serts seated a little deeper but, that’s fine.

Heli / Perma-Coil. This one was previously installed years ago and remains.

Using the OEM upper as a guide for drilling, the holes are plumb and the intake will be ready for use after the bolt hole is fixed. The studs look a little off given the affects of using close focus.

Aaaand, true to form. After all this time, money and hoopla is finally done… look what I found while re-organizing my tool chest.

Yup…the missing M8 x 1.5 Heli Coil kit was ‘hiding’ on a cluttered shelf, under a tossed rag, waiting for use when I got done with the original project of replacing the injector return hoses. I knew I’d seen them somewhere…old-Heimers and one big, serious face palm here.

But before I get dog piled upon by you my friends, I seem to recall finding a return hose kit under some stashed parts in the back of someone’s Burb a couple of years ago….

”[Things] happen,” eh?

Went to Kingman to prep the streamliner and help with a couple of other things around the place. Took my damaged lower intake in the hopes there would be time to repair the ear. Nope. But, friend of his knew a guy etc. and I was able to pick up a pretty clean lower for a fair price. Sorry, there are no additional parts unless one wants the upper "F" intake. No damage to the mating surfaces or ears and the upper to lower bolt threads were seemingly free of issue. Ran an M-8 tap through them and there was no resistance.
Brought to my favorite Powder Coater and it came out real nice. They cleaned up the upper intake as well so now I have, what, three of them!

Anyway, today was out with the old...

...and in with the new.

With my back and hips giving me the issues they have, I figured it would be a two day job but, things went pretty smooth and no backward steps for a change.

Tell Me what components You used to plumb in that turbo ?

Tell Me what components You used to plumb in that turbo ?
Clearest pictures I have, without running down to the truck tonight, are from 2013 when I was mocking things up for the spacer concept.
I inherited the intake design from my friend and former member 635. These were just mock ups.
The Hat is a product supplied by Pennisular Diesel. I don't know where you'd find one these days.
The Cast Aluminum Elbow is a Cummins product. Part number, if I'm reading it right, 3918885-00-4 KPK
The spacer is my first prototype cut out of 1.5" thick plywood (x2 pieces of 3/4" sandwiched). Yes, I ran it foer a couple of hours. The AIT sensor wouldn't function though because there was no path to ground using the wood.

The reverse elbow to the turbo is just some 90' pre-fab steel pipe that is the same diameter as the openings for the Turbo and "Cummins Elbow." Just mocking things up.

I tried a smaller diameter set up with a silicon step down hose but, it wasn't right and the coupler kept letting go.

Finished product with two of the spacers finalized and anodized. FWIW, to solve the path to ground I ended up taping in an M-6 bolt to the rear and added a 10 gauge wire to the G104/5 points on the intake. Long story.

The whole idea behind the intake design was to provide a means of utilizing an intake w/o having to cut up the OEM upper for use with either the A Team Turbo or possibly and HX setup. As I said in an earlier post on this thread, the spacer was so I didn't have to tap holes in the lower for boost and AIT sensors.

Here is the intake connected to an ATT.

Leroy eventually came up with an adaptor of his own to allow the use of the OEM intake and the ATT w/o having to cut anything. I couldn't get it to stop leaking boost and oil. I know another member ordered one and had the same issues with it.
As a friendly joke at my color choices, Leroy painted mine purple....

Some have maintained that the two 90* elbows I have aren’t good for airflow. Others agree that over that short distance…meh.

Quadstar sells an intake that looks pretty slick.

Naturally, it needs to utilizes an install kit (additional dinaro) for adapting it to various turbos. Or one can always come up with their own adaptation dedign.

Another advantage to mine or Quadstar’s set ups is there’s pretty much unrestricted access to the top of the IP. Same if you need to adjust timing as the 12-point nuts can be accessed without having to remove the upper intake.
