HOLY CRAP! Billet compressor wheel for the factory turbo.

If it is similar to the WW does that mean it will provide more boost than stock gm-x. The Ford crowd who use WW seem to have substantial increase in boost with the WW. 6.5 do not really like a large boost pressure. Even with a tune I almost never see more than 12 psi. I am almost willing to get one just to give it a try I still have the gm-x turbo.

I realize some people run higher boost but from what I understand it puts stress on these engines.

The whole point of changing the compressor wheel is to flow more mass of air per psi, its the same as putting in a larger diameter compressor wheel and/or turbo. The stock turbo is ok to around 10-12 psi from what we are told then the backpressure in the turbine side becomes bad and thats when things get toasty warm and things go boom in the night. We aim for 1:1 backpressure/drive pressure and the stock GMX is something like 3:1, very bad.

So we have 2 options, upgrade the whole turbo to a better balanced and flowing turbo, aka the HX turbo's we put on and you drop the drive pressure which makes the engine very, very happy and you supply more air and less boost. If running higher boost, the engine should have studs and fresh head gaskets if the engine is older but some seem to be able to run 20 psi on stock stuff, with the right turbo. I push mine to 22 psi and she loves it.

Hope that makes sense.

so you think that your fancy china wheel slows down the overall speed that the charger will spin? like i said on DP trying to push more air through a charger without MWE is just asking for surge and shaft failure.... but i digress, you are the self proclaimed 6.5l diesel specialist, at least thats what you claim on your website....LOL

turbovanman has a website? will we get to see more of Dat Chicks A$$ on said website? :)

I will vouch on the gutlessness of stock 12 valves. buddy has a 94 3500 with a 5 speed and its gutless as crap. I would pit any of our 6.5Ls against it its that bad. :) he also has a 98 12 valve, same config, but 4wd, and he said pre-fuel plate, it was just as bad.

Ok, I'll admit it. I bit and bought one just for the conversational side of things.

Shoot . . .! Dag-gone peer pressure . . . Am thinking that I might as well and get one too. After all, the blender is not making finely ground ice slushies like it used to and the Margarita's are not quite the same with chunky ice :hihi:

Hmmmm . . . If this is true, I just might pay for a subscription :agreed:

Turned to entertaining instead:hihi:
but with the bickering its starting to look like just another #$%^& storm in the making. Hopefully I'm wrong.

This should liven things up though.

Ok, I'll admit it. I bit and bought one just for the conversational side of things. I'll take some good photos and post them up. Unfortunately, I don't have a GM wheel to compare it to anymore but no matter.

If you need a GM turbo to play with I have one laying around I would let have to experiment with. I believe they make a weldable flange for the downpipe side... could maybe open up that side of things as well.

People can sell anything on ebay. Half the crap I see on there is scams. And I really doubt anybody makes a Wicked Wheel for a GM-x series of turbo's. Nobody makes shit for anything 6.5L anymore, why venture out and make a "wicked wheel" for the GM turbo. I checked DieselSite, the makers of the Wicked WHeel, and there is no listing for such, so I may bet it is custom ( if even made for a GM-x turbo) and possible to have no research whatsoever done to it and just selling a fancy copy of a name. Without seeing a revised turbo map or any research, it seems like a sketchy buy. Somebody brought up the fact that ebay won't let people sell non good products. Well I see they let people sell CKO's on ebay and the Cummins guys have shown how well the craftsmanship is in those, which I would call "not a good product". The only reason we are able to get away with them is we can't spin em up, so we found a niche where cheap bad quality productss just so happens to work. Like I said, I'm interested, but watching with much skeptisism.

Had a pretty good chat with the owner of that Ebay store, seems pretty knowledgable, he emailed me saying he ran out of wheels and won't get another batch in until Friday, so he offered to refund my shipping and then send out the new wheel express.

Understood. I did chat with him and he does have these made for the GM turbo, so yeah, I guess time will tell.

Any way to have the wheel subjected to testing to ensure it has as good a chance as an OEM wheel of holding together. Have to admit, I'm on no hurry to put it on my new motor with some due diligence on my part.

Count me in as another popcorn eater for now.
So thanks for the offer of the loaner GM but no. Besides, I've got one of my own loaned out to a guy in Denver that is either. Using it or upgrading to an aftermarket unit.

Mine came today so I'll post pictures and measurements so the 100 lbs heads like Vanman and Ferm can have some more stuff to mull over.

This is the same concept as the BD Valve. Everyone I asked about it except for 2 people said it would not work and was a terrible idea. Yet, it worked amazing. Same as my water/meth. EVERYBODY was skeptical using a high % mixture of methanol, saying it would knock and cause bad things, yet it worked fine with no noise or knocking or anything at 32% and 49%. So there is going to be skeptics about the GM WW, myself included. If it works good, I will be the first to admit I was wrong. Just always going to skeptics with everything

It would be good to see some more info on these wheels. I am going to try one for my gm-x it will be a interesting experiment have to see if I can find a dyno around here.

Its here

I will take that as a compliment(even though I'm sure it wasn't).
It was most definitely a compliment. By the way, hope the recovery is going as envisioned.

Got the Billeted Sculpted Aluminum Wheel (BS-AW?) today. Ordered Sunday, the shipping window was 5-14 FEB 14 so this was a pleasant surprise. I'll take it with me this weekend and show it to AK Diesel Driver, Will-L and Big-T.

Good shipping protection inside. Best I've seen from an Ebay vendor
IMG_3049.jpg

Box is labeled rather than hand jammed printing as is the shipping box which makes it seem like a drop shipment except the seller's label is on the box as a returnee.
IMG_3050.jpg Ok, so its an MFSC611C I didn't think calling it a Mother....SCrap.... was appropriate . We ought to try to maintain some sense of decorum. :rolleyes5:

BS-AW wheel ensconced in bubble wrap. Absolutely no room for movement or damage.
IMG_3051.jpg

Very light weight, not having held one of these off the Turbo, I was surprised.
IMG_3053.jpgIMG_3054.jpg

Label stamped on the back. I'm assuming the small oval cut is for balancing?
IMG_3052.jpg

Measurements
IMG_3055.jpg Base width of blades (or is this the "Exducer" I'm ignorant and tired of trying to figure out the jargon on my own  )

IMG_3056.jpg Top (Inducer?)

IMG_3057.jpg Centerline width

IMG_3058.jpg Primary blade width (insert correct term here someone please)

IMG_3059.jpg Secondary blade width

Impression: It feels fragile. Blade width doesn't change. from base to tip. Edges are sharp but not jagged

Hope this helps with some of the curiosity.

It was a compliment, he means we are bull headed and will try things when others say it won't work.

Too funny. On one side, your willing to try stuff that others say won't work but on the other, you don't want to because it doesn't make sense! :???::rof:
