Newbie question... But what are you all using for valve cover gasket sealant, if any?
Dry?
RTV Silicone? (yuck, this is usually not appropriate, but yet see it all the time)
Permatex Aviation?
FWIW I have it all on the shelf in the workshop, but not sure as to what is prefered for...
How do you get to it?
I can kinda see it. I can kinda feel it. I can't get it. :(
I took the turbo out and all the related air intake parts, but I cannot reach it. The exhaust downpipe will not come out, so that is not an option, I tried.
Hints! help! anything!
Thanks!
Well I finally entered the 6.2 world last night! Thanks to Craigslist I found a local guy who bought a Lot (not a lot) of military surplus engines and had one for sale as extra. Very nice man who has a CUVV truck with a 6.2 and an International Scout 6.2 conversion project in the works...
Hey, it is starting to get cold here! Where is the official 2012 Glow Plug thread? My oooolllldddd G60s are about shot.
What are the best glow plugs to buy these days? G60s or Duratherms?
Also do you all normally replace the wiring and/or glow plug relay at the same time?
I would...
Straight up stopped at a light waiting on green.... Crushed by a Cummins off the line in an older 2500. Granted he was rolling smoke so dare I say not stock. But he even let off a couple times, playing with me, and I still couldn't produce the goods. He heard the HX40 spooling at the...
What is the best fan clutch out there these days?
This for a 4 bolt setup and I already have the later 8 blade metal fan. Really I would like to just get a clutch...
Some of the Severe Duty ads are claiming that you need 180F thermostats - which is not acceptable IMO.
Anyway it...
Please post your experiences with tips and tricks that increased your mileage for your 6.5TD rigs!
I will keep this updated with a list of known ways we can decrease fuel consumption.
These are open for debate, but here are some that I see:
High flow air intake/cleaner
High flow...
Newbie question here, but how does the manual shifter linkage work on the 6.2 setup?
With the 350 it has a bolt pivot location on the block... Not sure for a 6.2, but I would image it would have to be close in nature. Too early for hydraulic clutches.
Thanks!
Well it is officially cold!
Time to start plugging them in at night!
I got the extension cord out yesterday and plugged in the Burb last night. Good thing since the weather got down into the twentys last night. Started like a champ and warmed up quickly :) Not even a puff of smoke...
For a background of this issue please refer to this thread: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?24755-Vacuum-Pump-delete-Question...&highlight=belt+length
In summary, there has been some debate over the issue of belt lifespan after removal of the vacuum pump. In other words...
... I am in a place that I cannot talk about. Doing things I cannot talk about. And that I cannot take pictures of.
BUT I am staring at pallets full of NEW 6.5 motors attached to transmissions waiting to be deployed who knows where. GM tagged Melton engines. Mechanical pumps too boot...
I got the A/C rebuild kit off of gar-bay and I am stuck on figuring out where the orifice tube goes? The long filter thing if orifice tube is the wrong term :)
From what Aces said I am just going to go by refridgerant Lbs and temp out of the vents.
Should be a blast tomorrow! I am have...
My front sway bar on the Suburban was cracked on the ends... It is just a crimped tube of steel where they go into the end links. Anyway after years of rust and bouncing, I guess they gave up the ghost... When, who knows.
This weekend I put in a new "upgraded" Addco swaybar. Solid bar 1...
I just wanted to start a warm and fuzzy thread for the 6.5s :)
I started a new job which requires a lot of travel on the road car/airplane. So far mostly car time and the Suburban has done a great job!
Just this morning I drove up to PA which takes about 3 hours and it was just smooth...
Well I broke a brake line in the front of the Burb yesterday so I had to call a tow guy to bring it to the repair shop... Depressing. Broke her flatbed cherry.
If GM had normal brake line fittings I would do it myself, but I have no desire to fabricate brake lines. No one in my town...
TD from a 2 y/o thread here:
Can anyone help me out on finding the correct place or wire to tap into for the brake light switch?
All the other wires have been a piece of cake. But I am having a heck of a time finding the correct place to connect to the brake signal.
Thanks!!!
Am I the only person who has a real heck of a time removing the T50 head bolts that hold the rear seats in?
2 - Craftsman 3/8 drive bits broke
1 - Snap On 1/2 drive bit broke
Most came out okay, but 2 are being little devils.
I applied PB Blaster liberally days ahead of time and still...
Now that the snow is finally melting, I can get back on some Suburban repairs!
I went out to the local junkyard which has 2 CK series Suburbans and picked a little. I got some reflectors for the doors, a drivers window, misc brake lines (to remove the ABS), driver inner door handle, rear ext...

Currently I run the "Sentinel" series on my truck and have been very very pleased. The "Sentinel" is a Bridgestone Revo A/T knock off.

Good or bad idea for our 6.5s?
Also what ratio to run? How much is too much in a mixed tank? Maybe it does not matter?
Sorry for the knob question, but I am sick of recycling all that potential fuel now that diesel prices are skyrocketing!
Thanks,
