Well, i don't know why but the place won't let me upload new pics so here is my progress update. I've stripped out nearly the entire interior. The carpet was toast and the seats don't match (see pics). There is plenty of rust on the driver's floor panel but none of it seems to be all the way through. I'm gonna herculine it because it looks cool and its way cheaper than replacing the carpet or even a molded vinyl mat. On top of that, the herculiner will keep any more moisture from getting to the floor panels.

always good to see a fellow bent on restoring his ride. if you need small parts let us know. many of us have things laying around.

I'm the kind of guy that needs to invest time in a project. At the moment, this one is it. Its a heap but when i'm done with it, it will be a semi-nice heap. :)

Update 3-20-09

Well, its been a while since i've posted an update. I have put about 2500 miles on the suburban and its been fairly reliable. It has been started in 5-10 degree weather without issue. Now its time to start some upgrades.

I scored this 78 3/4 ton chassis with a 14bff rear and a 10bolt hd front. Gonna clean up the axles, paint them, change the gear oil, maybe replace the wheel bearings and rebuild the brakes.

The transmission and tcase is for sale if anyone is interested. Tcase is a 203 27 spline and the trans is a th350.

Cool, Is that one of the full time 4x4 setups? If so are you going to convert the front hubs to part time? You are swapping in the 700r4 and 208 transfer case right?

That 10 bolt front should be a Dana 44 in that year. What the heck kinda wheels are those on there? They look familiar, but I can't place them.

Davo, the NP203 is full time. I'd like all of them to die in a fire, the only good part of them is the separate gear reduction box that goes good in a 203/205 doubler kit. Also properly converting the NP203 to part time operation involves more than just changing the hubs.

Looks like a good project, keep us updated.

Yeah, its full time 4wd. I'm gonna ditch the drive flanged on the front hubs and go with lock outs so that its not spinning all the time. Don't wanna change to the 350 trans due to lack of overdrive. I'm gonna run the 700/208 combo that is already under my burb.

Well, i was told it was a 78 but could be 79. I know it is supposed to have a th400 trans but had a 350 with it that was obviously not original. I'm not too worried about the 10bolt HD because i'm not really looking to do any heavy 4 wheelin with it. I mainly wanted the ff 14bolt and the larger HD brakes for when i lift it. The wheels are off of a railroad service truck. That's why it looks like a dually wheel mounted on a srw axle.

I ordered most of the parts i need to put my turbo together today. My summit order was around 450 bucks and i still have to buy some misc. stuff from the parts store as well as some longer exhaust manifold bolts. I also scored a stock Dmax exhaust that i'm gonna cut up and use for my burb. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as this should get interesting.

new parts

As promised, here is the goodies I've gotten so far. A couple of things are backordered.

Well, the turbo install is underway. I have a couple questions for those of you who have done this already.

First, for you guys that have swapped out to electric fuel pumps, where did you mount your pump?

Second, How did you guys run your crossover pipe? Pics?

Here are some pics:
