Rebuild for a performance oriented 6.5

He talked to ARP and said that we could use big block bolts, but it would require additional machine work (they are a larger diameter bolt). As much as it was going to end up costing I decided to just stick with stock replacement.

Haven't been able to get much done the last few weeks, my wife has our son a little early so I've naturally been a little busy with that[emoji4]

But I did get the piston rings installed one night after everyone finally fell asleep, I got the engine on the stand, and was able to install the Scat crank from Leroy and the stock cam. Hopefully by the end of the week I can have the pistons installed, along with hopefully the timing chain and oil pump and whatever else I can find the time to put together. It will be slow going, but so far what little I've done has gone smoothly.

Thanks for the update and more importantly, congratulations on the new addition to your family!! (I mean the baby, not the engine!:D )

I was going to just use the chain that came with the rebuild kit, but I'm talking with Leroy about the gear set now[emoji4]

Well, I ordered the gear set from Leroy. Excited to get it and put it on. I also picked up my dads piston ring compressor today so hopefully this weekend I can get a little more work done on the engine and be ready for the timing gears when they show up.

It's here! Showed up Saturday morning. Gotta love ordering from Leroy. Thanks again! Can't wait to get it installed!!

On a side note, if anyone wants my timing chain set that came with my rebuild kit, I'll sell it to you[emoji4]

Got a little more work done today. Installed all the pistons and oil pump. No clearance issues between the crank and piston skirts with the slightly shortened rods. Everything has gone smoothly so far. Slow, but still without any hiccups.

Good to hear, though I would have been shocked if there was interference with that little bit of shortening.

I didn't expect it either, but I figured I would mention it since there was some questions brought up about it. The clearances between the skirts and crank are close, but there is still probably close to 1/4" clearance from what I could see. So I would imagine that there would be virtually no chance of the clearance ever being an issue. Unless you happen to bend a rod, but then you have a whole other mess of problems [emoji51]

Thank you! The build looks good. Is that the stock crank?

If you don't mind me asking, how much $$ do you have into this build?

Something just went in my 6.2/6.5 hybrid I built about 8 years ago. I found oil in the coolant after getting low oil pressure. Anyway, I am trying to decide between a rebuilt optimizer or P400 and how much I will save rebuilding will be the deciding factor.

Welcome to TTS. Ive seen Oil in coolant only 3 times, it's always been gasket failure of water pump. That's why I don't use the gasket at all anymore- just "the right stuff" silicone.

Can you start a thread on your k5? They're sweet.

Pretty sure there is some price break down in that thread.
