My new truck

Back to square one-
AC Delco or Fluidampr only.

If Dayco offered a lifetime warranty, and you put some Crosscheck across the two rings, checking it each oil change, and IF they didn’t give you grief to replace it a few times… then MAYBE consider it vs Delco if the price isn’t bad. But in my book stick with what works or spend the money for one that actually works better and never fails.

So it was bugging me about what I read about the ring so I did some searching and it turns out I misunderstood what they said. They were talking front to back not rotational. That's what the big snap ring is for.

So I went to start my truck at my job site today and it just clicked, verified the starter relay was what I was hearing. Went underneath with a hammer to tap on the starter. Had my son hit the key while I was under there. It cranked but had lots of sparks at the terminal. Got home and checked it and the wire was just dangling. So I pulled the cable and made a new end for it. Can't remember ever having one break like that before.

Time for some preventative maintenance. 291k on the clock. Hoping to do gear drive ,I have two , so I thought I may as well put one on this engine. Timing chain doesn't have as much slop as I thought it would for that many miles. Also time for a new water pump as this one seems to be leaking. While I'm in there going to do new rocker buttons. DS valve cover has developed a pretty good leak so need to get in there anyway. Also have new injectors but I'm not sure I'm going to put them in just yet. My pop tester needs some love before I can test them.IMG_20251105_171243397_HDR.jpgIMG_20251105_171253572_HDR.jpg

So according to Chris's pictures the long end of the idler shaft goes forward which I have. Must have been reassembled wrong if the snap ring goes outwards too. I'm assuming the cam gear goes on farther and the camshaft will come forward. If one of the idler gears is bigger it's not easily spotted.
