DS4 going to become obselete?

@THEFERMANATOR ok, thanks.

I know the 94 civilian hummer uses a normal ds4 and the cat computer. Some people avoid it because it’s more rare, while others search it out on purpose. One guy owned a few hummers and ordered the 03 harness and ecm to make it match his others for long term parts availability. But that was a 12volt cat computer, I would guess the hmmwv cat computer is 24v so may be complete different animals.

He is away from where it is at. He said when he gets back to it he will send me pics of it to post here. He wasn’t trying to sell it, I just thought getting info here on it might help him, and maybe many others later if these ip’s start landing in places like auctions, teds, boyce, etc. and there is some way of putting them in service.
I’m really jelous of his 20 hour p400. Understand, it was complete. Ip, turbo, everything for 6k. And done at urova... it’s not like they beat it up! Haha. Everything that outfit touched was gold.

When I built the engine for my tahoe I did not have an IP, but I was able to get a 24 Volt from a guy for $100 and got it re-built. I just told the shop that it was a 24V and asked them to change it to a 12V. They talked like that was no big deal.
Can the ds4 that are 24volt that came on the p400 be converted to 12v by interchanging components?

If it's the 5521 ds4 or a db2 it isn't a big deal to change it to 12 volt. The unknown is the "special hybrid 250hp" ds4 just for the p400. I know I looked at a parts breakdown before and almost every internal part was different.

Here is the pics he texted me on it. Nice guy named Kyle.

I am not good at searching a thing online.
Seems to me there should be some ip’s and ip parts at the different gubmint auctions.

Problem is usually it buy 40 of something. But if someone posts the items a few of us could haveone person buy it and do group by between us.

Now if only they had a semi truck full of complete p400s as a lot... haha

Hello, just signed up as Will instructed me to do some research. Is anyone confident on what that ds4 is and if I can utilize it for my p400 build or as a spare? Hoping it isn’t a paper weight.

He is the guy I posted about. That is his p400 with the 24v ds4831-6033.
Hopefully if nothing else he could salvage the head and rotor as backup for his other ds4. But it has some run time then has been sitting for years. I have concerns over damage from not being flushed before storage.

@hithere can you post a pic of your ip tag currently on your hummer?

from everything I read the head and rotor are the same but most of the internals are slightly different. The cam ring being the most obvious difference.I'd be interested in the IP if he decides to scrap it

I can't find a parts breakdown anymore for the ds pump, but from what I could find it looks like the fuel cutoff solenoid is about the only difference between the 12 volt and 24 volt ds pumps. The 04 optimizer used a 12 volt version of this special ds/de hybrid pump according to a tech bulletin I could find. I did find that all the DS pumps use the same electrical simulator to run them, and the only notes it said between 12 and 24 volt was to use the 12 volt pmd for the test stand(the tester uses a mechanical shut off valve for calibration purposes).

So does anyone know what the actual composition is of the test fluid they use on injection pump test machines? A local shop I talked to said he could run an IP on his test machine that was gummed up and it would dissolve the gum and varnish residue. Would a can of Seafoam in the tank do the same thing?

Looks like it's mostly kerosene. Got thinking about this and suddenly it hit me biodiesel you dummy. So according to the internet there's a station in Wasilla that has it. So I'm going to stop there tomorrow and see..
