Drove a L5P today

Seriously considering a 1500 LTZ 4x4, as they have 10-12k off MSRP.. drive it for a while then buy a new diesel end of the year.

43K vs 60K is a huge difference.
I just bought one for my dad for his company truck, and they're dang nice. He got a LTZ Z71 with the painted grille and bumpers (much better looking, IMO) and it has the 5.3 and the 8 speed. It moves out, but they just went to MO and he got upwards of 20 MPG. I think if he'd have kept it closer to 70-75 he'd have gotten 22+. We paid $43,500 plus upgrades and TTL. I don't know what the OTD price was. Unless you're towing a big RV or heavy trailers, it's hard to justify the extra $20k...
 
Down here they are all pre-sold before they hit the lot. It is crazy what a few extra horsepower and a hood scoop will do.
I was surprised, a local dealer had a CCSB LTZ on the lot, and 2 RCLB's, all with hood scoops lol. Boy do the Regular cab Long Bed "base" model trucks look funny with the chrome hood scoop, IMO...

Yea, what is the deal with the hood scoop other than more fresh air being inducted to the engine. What is Chevy claiming to gain horsepower wise from it? I could care less about a hood scoop, it ain't a late 1960's muscle car.

Kind of like I got me a bad a$$ CHEVY truck, you see that there hood scoop, its bad to the bone, don't you mess with me, I will blow your doors off.....LOL....:)
 
I don't think they're claiming it gives X gain (I'm sure some engineer knows the number, but it's not been released), they're just saying it's an integral part of feeding the new beast. Which I don't doubt, I guess...

The hood scoop is not just for looks, it's there because it's needed. I'm sure many still remember the LLY's had some overheating issues. Those issues were largely in part due to the engine sucking in heated air from the cooling stack in through the intake. Most might say that sucking in intake air that's heated 20-30 degrees hotter than ambient air temp isn't going to make much of a difference, but they proved that was one of the root causes of LLY overheating. It's a snowball effect issue essentially. By sucking in intake air that's already heated an extra 30 degrees, that increases the temp of the air charge going through the intercooler, then that extra heat going through the intercooler means the cooling air going across the radiator is hotter reducing the cooling efficiency of the radiator, then you still have your intake charge going into the engine that's been heated extra to begin with raising the cylinder temps before the combustion event even takes place, don't forget hotter air is less dense, so there is less oxygen to work with furthur reducing power making potential, then once it fires that already preheated intake charge you get higher egt's, those higher egt's furthur increase the heat under the hood to contend with, and at each stage the heating effect is amplified as the snowball grows going down the mountain. All of the sudden a hood scoop sounds like a pretty simple solution to greatly reduce the heat load you have to deal with, increasing the potential to make power with a cooler denser air charge, minimizing excess heat loading to remove from the engine, and all of a sudden that hood scoop sounds like a pretty valuable add on.

Ford has decided to go with water to air cooling and added radiators and cooling systems to deal with the heat from all that power. GM is doing there best to stay with 1 cooling system but still deal with all that heat.

Ferm, I figured it was only a matter of time before you chimed in and had an informative logical explanation. Guess we will see how well it works out.
 
Oh yeah, makes sense. 30 degrees intake air temp difference is huge. A 70* day and I can stand on my throttle down the hiway. 100* day and I am stuck in the right lane watching grandpa moses pass me. I know 6.5vs dmax... but nothing reminds me of it better to me than that. Most of the world learned it data logging at the race track:). And With the ugly scoop on my hummer I show that I'll take ugly and better working over looks and less function, even though my scoop is for the cooling stack.

It's not a bad idea at all.
 
I'm hoping to hit the jackpot at the casino this weekend. Short of that, I'm not getting myself a new truck any time soon...
 
Even IF I won the lottery, I most likely wouldn't buy one. I do like the 11+ frame and brakes compared to the older trucks, but the LBZ is still to this day hard to beat for simplicity, reliability, and economy. Unfortunately owners of the older trucks think they have platinum in them with theprices they want for them.
 
I hate to say it, but the new interior is leaps and bounds above the old trucks. The seats are awesome, good ergonomics, the MyLink system is actually pretty decent. I wouldn't want to go back to an LBZ if I didn't have to...

I am right there with you. My 2006, 2500HD, LBZ has less than 77,000 miles on it. I will do one of two things with it. Drive it till it falls apart which would be many years from now and buy me a gasser 1/2 ton mainly as a daily driver or option 2 is sell or trade it and buy a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton gasser with the 6.2 gas motor and be rid of it. I know with time I am looking at the possibility of injectors and having to possibly do something with the transfer case rub if it happens. I have never corrected that.

It is hard to beat the 2500HD and a Duramax as far as towing, but within the last year the heaviest thing I towed was a 4000 pound camper twice. I have a farm tractor that will be hauled more in the future, it is about 7500 pounds counting the weight of the trailer. Yelp, my truck will spin the tires pulling that tractor on my 18 foot equipment trailer, because I have done it before. Also might be hauling some logs and firewood in the future, heck I can load an 18 foot trailer pretty heavy, I believe in making a trip out of the woods count.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions....but probably at this point I will not be buying a brand new GM, 2500HD, with a Duramax, unless some person leaves me a huge sum of money or hit the lottery like RI Silveradoman said.....:) I just can't justify a new one.
