Here are a few pics of a build I'm working on for a member here, long block will be assembled this coming week...

Most of these pics are of the heads, CNC ported, big exhaust valves, TSP valve springs, Heat stop in all runners, Heat barrier combustion chambers, 3 angle valve job... Next week I'll install head studs, MLS gaskets, heads, then it won't be too much longer I'll have it on the run stand...

In the background is another build for a boat, it also has the same work done to the block & heads John's does, it will also have the long block assembled next week..

@JohnShead here is your build...

John's block also got a "short Fill", block filler up to the bottom of the w/p holes, cylinders were diamond honed, total seal ring pack, all bearings were ceramic coated, rotating assembly balanced to 1gr front to back spec, pistons were coated on the tops and skirts, modified P400 oil pump, main & rod bearings coated and clearance set @ .002", new Clevite cam bearings also coated. It's going to have HS rockers and custom length pushrods..

If you have a good rebuilder, take it there.

I'd disconnect the alternator wire check voltage at the alternator

Make sure and protect the end of the wire from arc strikes

Looking great Chris, it's finally coming together. I guess I need to raise the priority level of my transmission rebuild, it's still completely disassembled on a table in my garage, lots of work to do on the truck to get it ready too, my wife is going to love it:chicken:.

Get the paint coming...

Who would have thunk decades after the venerable 6.2/6.5 platform was deemed a POS by all that thought they new everything; so many would still be on the road, with more power out of them than prevailing wisdom thought possible.

I'm still loving my 1st one a 98 6.5 that I have owned 2000, my 2nd 98 purchased in 2006 was a running strong Burb when I parked it in 2015 (albeit has some body rot going on after my son had it 4 years in VA where they use road de-ice chems in winter), I just didn't need it as daily driver any more, keeping as a "hangar-queen" for spare parts if ever needed.

Because so many of the issues was poor diagnostics then poor repair or correction theories. They are know for garbage injection pumps- when the db2 is amazing for multi-fuel and lasts 350,000 and the ds4 handles 250,000 no problem if proper fuel supply pressure is there. The horrible ds4 reputation was the pmd failures. And still 75% of places try keeping the pmd inside the engine bay.

For those unaware and wondering about the pmd on the ip origin—where using the fuel to cool it came from: Detroit 92 (v6,8,10,12,16 cylinder) series semi diesel that began mechanical ip later got computer control unit called a D-Dec. yes the D-Dec is same task as pmd, but huge and way more stout.

The mechanical LP issues “solved” by cheapest electric LP in the light truck industry. All the failed blocks and cranks because they made these the most unbalanced lower rotating assemblies of any GM v8 ever- with the highest compression. 🤦‍♂️. Then all that compression and uneveness causing vibration the worst if any gm v8 and this is the engine they decided to test not removing excess flashing on. Haha.
It’s almost as if there was a decision maker in the group who was getting paid by Cummins to sabotage it.
Once people learn of the faults and address them- it’s ready to rock.
