Banks sidewinder exhaust manifold group buy.

So at this point this thread has come full circle, I completed the Banks manifold set up. Thank you all for taking the ride with me.
It has been so much fun and I learned a lot and continue to do so. I hope you did too.

The last note in this chapter will be my description of the trip and how it ran on the 5000 mile trip we just took.
I'll just ramble on as I remember things. If you have questions it will help me member too.

So, I can say I was majorly stressed about completing the build as a deadline drew near. We had been planning a trip to CA and my wife had her days off set. I literally got everything done with about 2 days to go. I fired up the engine for first time just days before!
On the first part of the trip I was on high alert, listening for anything, checking oils, checking coolant very often. The whole turbo set up was untested too!
Leaving TX was all flat land and a good way to start the trip. We stopped in Wichita Falls TX for the night. Everything was going great with the truck so far. Only complaint was some BUMB woke us up at 7am to ask for "gas money"!!. We left TX and as we got into NM the small hills started coming up. I was wondering how the gearing would be as I have 3:42 in the axle. I installed a US Gear overdrive unit before the trip (also untested). The plan was to manually pull down into 3rd with TC locked and go into OD when needed.
That worked OK, but with my 3:42 just did'int work like I hoped. I'll be going to 4:10 or 3:73 next time. What do you guys thing best?
The engine was performing flawlessly still.
We spent the next night at the base of a dormant volcano in northern NM. That was very cool and worth the trip if you go that way.
The next day we go to Dinosaur Nation monument/park in CO and UT. It borders the states. On UT side they have the quarry pit in different stages of excavation and many thousands of bones can be seen. It makes you feel really small in this lifetime we humans have.
As a matter of fact now that I'm writing this down the whole trip makes you realize how small we are (us and the earth as a whole).
If your the kind that likes taking vacation on a cruise, theme parks, Vegas, Disney Land......ect I highly recommend you take one and just hit the road with no plans. Pick a spot on the map each day and go there.
After that the next major attraction was Salt Lake City. That will blow your mind to see the salt flat. It was also the most boring part of the whole trip between SLC and Carson City NV. Many miles of nothing!
Could you imagine coming across the US in a horse drawn covered wagon! 15 miles a day was a real good day back then.
Next we made it to Elko NV, very cool small town. Its a gold mining town. We spent time at the museum there and found the next day one of the companies was giving a tour of their mining operations and might even be blasting the pit that day. But sadly we had to move on (timelines on vacation suck).
BTW the truck was still running perfectly.
The next day we got into Carson City and down to our destination a little south of there in CA to meet family at a place called Ice House Reservoir. Its a small lake with beautiful trees and rocks. At the camp site they had been there for a day already and met me with steaks and wine (does it get better than that?).
Then we went on down to Roseville and Folsom CA where my family live and were I grew up to age 10. There we visited and ate then visited and ate some more.

To be continued (and truck still going strong)

Sounds like a good trip!

For using the aux OD I'd say 4.10's put you in the sweet spot for the att once you drop to 3rd.
Im going to look at a gear ratio calculator and find what will be the best for me.

How well does the turbo spool with the new setup? Build boost any quicker ? and what was max psi?
It builds boost really fast, but with this gearing I ran most of the trip at 0 psi and on the hills kicked down to third and light throttle it went to 5 psi. I was afraid to push it hard so far from home so actually tried to keep the boost as low as possible.

To continue with the story above. We left CA but went across a little south of HWY 80 on State Rd 50. Seemed like the mountain ranges would never end!
Our first night we stoped in Ely NV. It was a really cool small little town. It's main business was two casinos. We ate diner at one then went back for breakfast. I had french toast, but this was not like any french toast I had ever had. It was deep fried!! and awesome! http://www.nevadaweb.com/cnt/pe/ely/
Leaving Ely we headed for Utah. Wanted to make it to Arches National park before they closed. We did not make it
but the gates were open. We drove the 24 miles to the campgrounds and were in awe of the sites (again). We had been there two year ealier. The night sky is very dark there (not as dark as Natural Bridges National park though).
On that night we could see the milkyway and most of the stars. I miss not seeing stars like that, around here there is to much light polution.
In the morning we headed back out of the park stopping at different sights along the way. It it a beautiful place and words or even photo's cant discribe it. You need to go to Utah.
Truck was still doing great and on the highway again leaving the park heading to NM again we stopped in Tucumc ari NM for the night http://www.cityoftucumcari.com/ it was a town on historic RT 66 that was all but a ghost town. I think only one resturant. The resturant was supprizingly good though. I had Steak and potatoes (one of the best potatoes I've had). It was sad to see all the closed businesses and it look like a movie set/backdrop. Not much to do there so we left early.
TX state line was very close, made it though Amarillo and down HWY 287 toward I35 and Austin, Waco and San Antonio. There was a small town called "Leroy" TX so we headed there of course. We thought this story was sad that we found about the town http://www.texasmonthly.com/content/day-leroy-died
From there we made the last leg into our home town.
It was a long trip, but not long enough looking back. Im ready to head out again!
The truck did fantastic with the very minnor issue of proper gearing (will be fixed very shortly). I have to say Im very proud of my truck, myself and even most of all my wife. She never once hurried me to complete the project, on the trip itself she was great, "my life support system". She was very relaxed the whole time. She is a good girl.

I'll be adding some pictures soon. Im having technical difficulties loading them from my phone.

Thanks again for taking time to read this.

How about going with an Underdrive? That's what I've been pondering with my 3.42's. Wonder if US Gear would change out your unit?

Cheers

Got any mpg numbers for the trip?

You were bout 3 hours from me at Amarillo.
MPG avg was 17's

Why did'nt you come say hi?

US Gear is out of business. Only units are if you find one used.

17 with a sail on the back is pretty dang good! What speed did you run? I bet with the gearing you could really get some speed through the desert stretch! Lol

Have to look into that. I had already planed on getting a shift lever with tow/haul button to operate the OD. Ive seen some that have the up/down button also, it that what the Dmax uses?

My 03 had tow/haul only. I saw some of the levers on craigs list but now cant find one there.

Dirty but you get the idea.

I'm thinking, optishift tow haul triggered by tow haul button and manual shift activated by tow haul button. Run econ or performance mode dd unloaded

Yep thats the one I was thinking of. Im also thinking that would fit the 96-2000 column.
