Autometer makes an alt pickup tach that straps the pickup to the outside of the alternator. The tach is adjustable to compensate for pulley diameters as well.
Works great on my K-5. extremely accurate.
It's something from long ago, that DieselPro made me a part of after getting Steaky booted from the scam site. That's about as much as i know about it, but i'm proud to be a steaksauce hater. I really don't like that guy and the way he slams people that can do things he cannot even imagine...
85+ used the one piece glow controller similar to the 6.5 controller.
The 85+ 6.2 one is gray in color with a 4 pin connector that attaches to the back. the 94+ 6.5 one is black with a 3 pin connector(same plug just one pin removed from controller)
82-84 used the circular GP controller that...
:rof:
OH man!
That guy never gives up does he. I love making him mad. It's so entertaining.
I remember getting him banned for a week at the scam site. If you egg him on he will respond, even if it means making himself look 10x worse than before. Boy oh boy did he have an all out fit...
One thing to note. If you have a 506 block that has piston squirters you must have the High volume oil pump, which has taller gears in it and spacer for the housing that allows the use of said taller gears.
If you run a non-HV oil pump on a squirter engine block, you will end up with almost...
I'm still on my original set from somewhere in early 2010 which has been through a set of injectors already and was re-used.
I checked them the other day and they are still soft and pliable.
*shrugs*
Strange.
Tygon is made to handle gasoline, vibration, and heat of chain saws and other small high RPM engines. Tygon line holds diesel fuel just fine.
Are you sure you got genuine synthetic Tygon line? Sounds like you didn't to me.
I'm still running the original "set"(i wouldn't call it a set because they weren't pre-cut) of Tygon return lines on my K-5 from ~2010. Been through one set of injectors so far, not due to mileage but due to age.
I"ll be swapping to tygon in the 96 when the time comes, if the poor girl...
Bend the little metal retainer that's on top of the rubber gasket. That's what holds the spring tension on the cap. Press down on it a bit to bend it downwards and your cap will seal like new again.
x2 on the air in the fuel system.
Biggest issue was with the stock "box" type fuel filters, but the military units from what i've read did not have the problematic restriction switch like the civilian models. ON the civilian models if fuel pressure dropped below a set pressure the WIF light...
There's room. I"ve got pictures somewhere of my cables but i can't find them at the moment.
What i did was a took solid copper ring terminals made for my gauge wire and crimped them with a vise onto the wires. Once that was done i took a punch and indented the crimp a bit to give it even...
Nick,
Haven't been to C&E in a while either. It seems the GM diesels are hard to find even there. I've seen maybe a handle in the few years i've been going there, and they are usually there for non-engine related problems. Wrecks, rusted/rotted body/frames, etc. No time to go to C&Es as on...
I'd go much bigger than 4 gauge. I'm running 1/0 gauge cables for the battery crossover and both grounds, and 2/0 gauge to my starter. The engine might as well do a flip when starting, even in the dead of winter.
4 gauge will end up melting on you if you have to crank the engine for any...
Detroit 2 stroke diesels were supercharged not for boost, but for scavenging. The blower was on the intake side and was gear driven. Said blower would force fresh air in, and exhaust gasses out the exhaust valves in the head. 2 Stroke Detroits had no intake valves. They had ports in the...
light is not controlled by pressure. Could've just burned out.
Make sure you do not over-charge the system. An overcharged system will work poorly, if at all.
My K-5 surprised me too. Pulling a 7% mile and 1/2 long grade with the A/C on it did fine. At the top of the hill the temp gauge came up to right around 200-205 once i stopped at the light at the top of the hill.
My 96 never had an issue with temps. It would show just like your photo and...
Injection pump is not happy.
Either water contamination/damage from water in fuel of condensation(if it sat a long while) or the pump is just plumb wore out.
I went through the same thing my my K-5 when i bought it. The injection pump turned out to be all rusty inside upon dis-assembly...
Thank you guys. :D
All that work was done over the summer of 2011, starting in May when the throwout bearing failed and i had to rip the transmission out after installing it during the conversion in nov/dec 2009.
I figured that it would be the perfect time to do the turbo conversion while...
It could be a solenoid, or it could be a bad spot in the windings some wheres.
When you turn the key watch the voltage gauge. if it clicks and the gauge drops pretty far, then the solenoid is working, and the starter has a shorted spot in it. Basically shorting the batteries to ground.
If it...
