    CV Axle Seperation

I appreciate the concern. However, I’m not removing the whole cooling fin. I’ve done the consulting and I’m sure that removing approximately 1” by maybe a half inch half-moon’s worth of material isn’t going to alter anything structurally.

The pan isn't smiling so much as leering. What we can't see is the 'bird' it's giving me out of frame. Unfortunately, in my case, the pans are not interchangeable because of differences in rear main seals. 6.5s are single piece whereas the 6.2's from 1982-1990 had a two piece rear main seal...

It is the oil pan that is causing the clearance issues. 6.5 vs 6.2 pan molding / modeling differences are the cause of the clearance. Here's a 6.5 pan to which I've added the markings as follows: The blue shows where my 6.2 pan differs as the 45 ish angle highlighted in yellow is not present...

Sagging…My chest, yes. Mounts…doubtful. My engine block is an N/A 6.2 599 block so the oil pan is a little different. I do remember that little tidbit but, I don’t know if the front differential designs changed much and this one came from a salvage yard given the OEM unit’s upper mount broke the...

    CV Axle Seperation

Thank you and BigT and Chris. I agree as I woke up early this morning (3 am) thinking about the issue and, ultimately, I'm not happy with it either. There's over a half inch of adjustment available on the passenger side mount (which has oval holes). I plan to drop the whole thing, break out the...

Finished the Lower Bracket Fabrication and cleaned up the LCA surface for welding (fingers crossed for this Wednesday). Again, that hole you see in the LCA was put there for mounting the drop bracket. You can see here how the lower mount lines up with the LCA. Cut a guide line on the lower...

    CV Axle Seperation

Got the passenger side brace put in and the differential relocated to the correct height. Before that could happen though I had to adjust the differental’s upper and lower driver’s side mounting bushing. The differential had shifted towards the passenger side as a result of the CV shaft beating...

    CV Axle Seperation

As mentioned a few times: 3" Rough Country Lifts with the differential dropped, eliminated half-shaft stress issues but, are, apparently, notorious for destroying steering components as there's nothing included (at the time) to adjust for those angles. A fact I wasn't aware of and didn't know...

    CV Axle Seperation

The lesson learned, at least one of them here, is that these things are engineered the way they are for a good reason. Yeah, bean counters….got it. When you change things from their original design, there are other systems that will change that one isn’t suspecting or overly concerned about...

Agreed. This truck has been a learning experience since purchased almost 20 years ago. The 'learing' continues.

    CV Axle Seperation

On my most recent trip out to El Mirage for some more crew chief duties I hit an unexpected big dip in the road and, yeah, another roadside swap for a busted Half-Shaft, Driver's side. Was hoping to have it repaired before hitting El Mo but, long story short, parts weren't on the truck coming...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Decided to replace the starter with the new PowerMaster 9052 I acquired a few months ago. Since I still haven't put the inner fender back in, it was a 'while I'm in here' thing. Almost decided not too as the current unit from NAPA has been performing fine so, leave it be...'if it ain't broke'...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

The water temperature gauge is no longer reliable so after cleaning connections first and then replacing the sender to no avail, I’m wiring in a replacement gauge. Decided not to eliminate the stock unit in case a solution can be found (fix, miracle or replacement gauge cluster). To ensure I...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Cleaned up the air filter after the weekend on the dry lake bed at El Mirage. Winds were blowing hard with gusts up to 60 mph a couple of times. Mostly in the 30mph range. Then one of the guys left my doors open and dust devil went through us…. This is inside the sock covering the filter and...

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

A good deal and saved a bunch on fuel not having to fetch them. Well done. The F intake can be used if the intake gaskets have the EGR passages from the heads blocked. Some gasket sets, like the ones I have on there now do, some don’t.

Can't hurt to have a good spare. My black one is still serviceable and, once the silver one is repaired, it'll be good to go too. Lower's on E-Bay are listing for anywhere from $200 - $330. The higher priced ones often include the upper. Uppers alone are listing at $50 - $200. What people are...

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

Some have maintained that the two 90* elbows I have aren’t good for airflow. Others agree that over that short distance…meh. Quadstar sells an intake that looks pretty slick. https://quadstartuning.com/products/high-flow-intake-plenums Naturally, it needs to utilizes an install kit...

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

Clearest pictures I have, without running down to the truck tonight, are from 2013 when I was mocking things up for the spacer concept. I inherited the intake design from my friend and former member 635. These were just mock ups. The Hat is a product supplied by Pennisular Diesel. I don't know...

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

Went to Kingman to prep the streamliner and help with a couple of other things around the place. Took my damaged lower intake in the hopes there would be time to repair the ear. Nope. But, friend of his knew a guy etc. and I was able to pick up a pretty clean lower for a fair price. Sorry...
