My 2005 Yukon XL

Nothing quite like holding the mic next to a speaker on the “good part” of a song or reminding another driver to pay attention to the road. I would ever rile up my dogs with it everyday when I get home either 🤣. There’s just something about country music that sounds better on a pa when working near the truck in a field…

I need a new cb & new speaker. A rock from a tire cracked my housing and it never sounded right. I just never did mount one in the hummer yet. What’s wrong with me?!
 
Got the back brakes pulled apart and cleaned up/regreased.

Fronts really need new rotors, the junkyard eBay ones barley lasted 1 year. Also trying to get new Viton o-rings for the catch can. Im having issues lately on start woth a puff of smoke. Common issue with the PCV system i guess on these. I really need to pull the drivers valve cover and inspect drain ports in the PCV system.
 
Been having a issue on cold starts. Puff of white/blue smoke. Definitely smells of oil. It all started when I did the new steering gear.

My hypothesis is my PCV system has an issue, allowing oil into the intake. Thus burning it off mostly noticeable on starts. I guess its common on this truck, and there are updated valve covers to remedy this. Ultimately I need to see what version cover is on there. But looking down the throat confirms oil is getting in there.

I had the front of the truck jacked to the moon to help bleed the steering system, since then I've been having this issue that is getting a little better day by day. But it leads me to getting the catch can installed ASAP until I have time to peel off the valve cover. Im trying to find a new set of o-rings as the old ones disintegrated.

Its not perfectly clean, but its friggin in the 30s out, so I wasnt going for perfection. I mighta gonna aggressive on the drain holes.

I need to do the passenger side too just for the gaskets sake. But I ripped a bolt grommet on drivers side install leaving me short now.

Spent more time screwing with the catch can. Got the proper 3/8s fittings on order. I also ordered some new O-Rings from UPR, but i am honestly hesitant they will be right. I found a 2-1/8" @ 1/16" Viton rings i might try.also found a bunch of 3/8 fuel line in my arsenal to plumb.

Ended up taking this 2-ish year old Dorman POS out. During body roll, flex, and stopping I can feel a weird binding in the column now with the very tight Wolff bearing. The slip joint in this intermediate shaft feels awful, damn near impossible to grease. Messed with it for a while, so will see if it feels better.

Eventually going to replace this scrap with a Borgeson intermediate shaft. I guess that's my only quality option now.
 
iirc there should be a thin metal clip in the grove on the slip joint that you can release with a pick and be able to separate the two halves. I remember doing this on the one in my 95 truck when I was building a shaft using parts of another one off a jeep to eliminate the GM rubber coupler on mine. the clip will fall out though once separated, so be careful not to loose it.

from what I remember, you just slip the end of the pick in that grove and into the outer part of the slip shaft, the clip pushed into that grove creating a stop so it won't slide all the way out. kinda like how it works on GM's spade pin connectors where there is a tab the locks them from pulling out.
 
So on the Dorman unit there was no clip per say. The bottom half actually has a pressed or punched area (see little blue mark in above pic) that rides in that groove. I tried prying them apart briefly, but the tolerance was actually so tight I couldnt get anything in there. My fear was mashing it up and not being able to bend back or snapping a flatbed tip.

I had planned to use the Borgeson units also but read reviews where people claimed it wasn't too long afterward that they experienced the same issue. Meanwhile, I just deal with the feel up through the steering wheel. I'll have to see if I can get my eyes on the one in my wife's '05 Suburban. It's been tight since we've owned it.

That sucks to hear especially for the price of it. The rattles are so annoying to me.
 
Made it back from the vacation on Saturday. Clocked another 1,900 miles on the Yukon with no fuss at all. Arriving back home I am just shy of 210K and need another oil change.

The catch can was about 1/2 full per each leg down/back. Looks like a half oil, half water mixture. The drivers door pins have eliminated the large wind noise issue I have had for quite a while!
