My nephew has the 1986 6.2 k2500 and handshaker transmorgifier. the occasional trail is the worst of it the truck should get. Even mix of city/hiway driving and he doesn’t try to go fast. No towing to speak of, occasionally (once a year for 30 miles) a car trailer with a pickup on it.

It’s acting like it due for a clutch. Its first clutch seems not happy after decades of sitting unused and still under 70,000 miles on it, but the first 65,000 miles was a mine truck in Colorado so it might have worked back in the day. Anyways…

Which clutch, throw out bearing, etc. should he look for and which to stay away from?

Wishing it was the 6.5 rear seal because I would tell him do it at same time since I have the tool, but two piece- only gonna say it if flat needed.

IDK whats available in Nevada or Arizona.
I took the clutch, TO bearing and fly wheel for the 1959 Dodge Power Wagon to this company in Billings.
They asked questions, the main question was, will You be in situations where You might be riding the clutch ?
I explained about the 6,000 pound winch, gin poles and could be maneuvering loads to get into position for a lift or a drop.
Okay
They built a heavy duty clutch that will handle any load that 318 Poly Head can absorb plus it can take the abuse of riding the clutch.
I have not put a lot of miles on this truck but the MT DOT shop where I worked would take the dual disk units to this company and have them do the rebuild on their big truck clutches.
No complaints from their products.

Did I post what I installed in the 1994 several years ago?

The clutch was still working, but when I swapped transmissions I noticed the clutch parts looked a little anemic. I don't remember what I used. Maybe GM or AC Delco parts.
Whatever I used was much heavier duty than what was in there

I used GM parts the 3 times I had clutch issues on the 1989 with getrag 5 speed
The first time - about 100,000 miles it blew a spring, I don't remember the 2nd and 3rd times clearly.

One of those times, it was just the throwout and I took it in to get swapped.

The mechanic chewed my butt for all of the grease. It was locked up and pumping grease in there was the only way I could get it to move. At least it was all new grease.
