Nope, just run em out. I know many say I hack em by not holding the flywheel and torquing the bolt, but I've yet to have a problem with one this way.

Every dealership and independent shop I went into when I was on the tool truck, that's how they all did it. I sold 1 of the tools. A great impact pays for itself by not needing many other tools...
On the IR231, there were 11 different grades in 2009. The go from suck to good. 2131 had 4 grades, the lowest of which was identical power to the best 231.
I've no clue where the sit 5 years later.

My 231 is at least 15 years old. When new it was rated at 250 ft lb and I imagine it's still pretty close. It's well used but still in great shape. I only run 1/4 hose though so I wouldn't expect full boogie out of it.

Mines just over 15 years old. Still remember buying it from SEARS August of 2000 when I bought all of my 1st tools working at a dealership. I had borrowed my dads tools before then, and he said time to get your own, so i had to buy it all in one shot. SEARS had it on sale as a new impact, and it turned out to be one strong SOB! Never had problems breaking off cross threaded lug nuts with it wit hthe 600 ft lbs of torque in reverse. Due to my accident it was only used for a year of me working at a dealership, but I still use it a couple times a month ever since, and it still to this day is a strong gun.
