got an SES light on my 3500 and took it to the autoparts store to check the OBDII code. It called out "temperature too low" and in fact the gauge does read low, 165 170, we just started our cold weather. New thermostat is 17$ and three beers, anything else I need to look at?

Go with a 195* especialy in winter. You'll gain some MPG's that will pay for the Tstat within a very short time.

Thermostat? where? how to change?

I started this thread http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?37357-Thermostat and just assumed it would be like any other engine but this seems to be buried under some sort of manifold that comes off the radiator and it looks like I got to take off a boat load of pipes and hoses to get to it. any how to's on the best way to do this? Got basic hand tools, do I need any special tools?

Is this it? it looks like I need TWO thermostats http://www.autozone.com/autozone/re...deContent.jsp?pageId=0996b43f8025efe4#hd1-1-6

This it ? http://www.flashoffroad.com/Maintenance/Cooling_system/thermostat/thermostat.htm

Drain off some coolant, to lower the level, and remove the bolts from the cover really not much more to it than that, fill up when complete start truck & open vent bleeder screw on top of the cover to vent the air from the system.

I grabbed a picture from the TRL picture thread and added some comments to it.

Filter mgr drain tee valve & dual stat x-over cover removal.jpg

I saw you had another post after this one & merged them into this thread, yes to your answers, 2 stats and the flash off road stuff is correct depiction for the dual stat you have on your 3500, artwork for the Hummer radiator is wrong for our truck but rest of information is correct
