New Steering Box, Is this A Problem?????

Unwrapped the new steering box from Redhead and the little teat that goes into the steering column was pressed in to the splined portion. See old vs new in the picture. I'm ready to install, so is this going to be a problem?

No problem. The rag joint that goes on the splines only uses the splines and doesn't care about the teat.

While you are there inspect the rag joint for loosening up (wallowing out) at the rivets allowing play in the steering wheel.

I installed it. Steering is awesome, but his brakes suck

So that's two Red-head steering boxes installed and neither had the issues that Thefermanator had.

Guess I was just lucky. That was pilot that was ommitted on later boxes.

Interesting. The box I installed a couple weeks back on my '99 came with the pilot teat. It does make installation easier.

Using an 18mm crow's foot on the power steering lines makes that job easier.
