Big Blue gets parked... For her buildup

I would put the truck all together without welding the perches. Once the weight is on the truck on the ground set the pinion and weld it like that.

I'm not sure whether I want to go with a double cardan or standard 2 joint driveshaft though. And both use completely different pinion angles so thats what has me waiting, but I do like your idea. Thanks for that advice.

Sorry I haven't gotten a chance to update anything guys. I've been having issues with companies telling me my "invoice disappeared" making me wait on parts, my dad passed away last week :( and I started a new Job last Monday. Everything has been happening at an alarmingly fast rate I haven't really been able to keep up. I need to get things rolling again. Also in the market for a second vehicle since I can no longer get away with riding my bike to work 5 minutes away. And with Big blue down right now, I'm on borrowed time(literally). I made a posting in the 6.5 classifieds section here: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?24515-95-GMC-RC-SB-for-sale-in-Jackson-NJ as far as the second rig goes. At first that was completely undoable, but right now it just might be... I'd really appreciate some input in these rough times.

Damn buds, sorry to hear about your dad passing. Ill keep my ears open bout any rigs for sale down this way and let you know if theres anything decent.

Keep on plugging bro, things will work out, don't stress it. Sorry to hear about the passing. Dad's in a better place now. His legacy lives on within you and your brothers.

Getting myself back in gear here. I've had a good amount of parts come in since my last update. Also went out last weekend and picked up my Dana 60 from yet another poor donor truck. I have all but the pinion yoke adapter on the drive shaft end of things. I'll probably pick tat up Monday. The new truck got put through its paces over the weekend, after being loaded down with all my tools, a 400lb generator and then the axle, it took to it like a pig to mud. So far I'm pleased. Most of the pictures here are pretty self explanatory, I'll have some more up tomorrow of some of the other stuff, such as the cable shift kit for the transfer case.

Long story short- don't waste your time with North West Fab works out of Canada. For 5 weeks straight they hit me with bogus excuses of "this is on back-order" and "our supplier screwed up the delivery". After 5 weeks the kit finally came in, only to find out it was missing the shifter boots:rolleyes5:. Another item on back-order. They called me this Monday telling me the boost where in and they are getting shipped out. I was "told" that they should have been here by the end of this week(today is Friday). If they aren't here by Monday I guess its back to the arguments with them.:mad2:

Dana 60 Stuff :) I'm going to keep the Dana 60 relatively simple. Still working on a suspension type... be it a 3 link, inverted 3 link, 4 link or radius arm type setup. It will use 3.73 gears. They can be that short because when put behind the NH 6.6L, all the gearing I need will be covered the The transmissions DEEEEEEP first gear, then combine with the 1.96:1 reduction in low range, I'll have all the crawling power I need.
An Air locker would be nice, but I'm not going to rush it, some Warm Premium lockouts and a replacement on the kingpins and all bearings/seals. That and some paint. I like things to be shiny after I blast all the mud off with the powerwasher

And my first change in plans so far. While picking up my Dana 60 axle, I came across a piece of history. A 6 bolt Chelsea PTO with a hydraulic pump! Part number matches it up with the NP 205 so instead of a Drive shaft type PTO(which I was having no luck with) I'll be running this with an in bed 15 gallon tank. Up front will be a hydraulic winch instead of drive-shaft driven, but the real crown jewel is going to far outpace any little electric air compressor. A hydraulically driven air compressor, capable of producing a jaw dropping 24 SCFM.

But I'll elaborate more when all the parts come in. More pictures will be up tomorrow

Hydraulic air compressor? Please do tell. That's be awesome if it'd bolt to my blazer's PTO mounts on the SM465. Where'd you find it?

I can't wait to see this truck when it's done Jamie.

Chelsea PTO with hydraulic attachment pics. It seems there was a mixup though. The rig the pump was pulled off of had 2 hydraulic pumps(old Chevy dump), I had a friend pull the pump and he grabbed the transmission PTO instead of the T-case unit:mad2::mad2:. I'll have to go back tomorrow and see if I can swap them out. No big deal I suppose.

The hydraulic air compressor was a lucky find. And it was all based on finding the hydraulic PTO unit. Ebay has a couple of them and the seem decent. The setup is simple(well to me it is). The PTO will be mounted to the transfer case with the associated hydraulic unit. I'll have a hydraulic tank in the bed in the space next to the stack with a heat shield to avoid heat degradation of the fluid. When the PTO is engaged, it will spin the compressor. This will be done while the T-case is in neutral. Up front, I'll run hydraulic hose for a Hydraulic winch instead of drive shaft or electric. Tanks are still getting mounted where the old spare tire carrier used to be, and the Air compressor will fit in opposite of the fuel tank n the space GM usually crams that massive muffler in.

Interesting little info here. The unit I was looking at:
http://www.viaircorp.com/Industrial/450CIG.html
Flows 1.66 CFM at 0psi and at 150 psi drops down too .72 CFM.

The hydraulic compressor I'm considering :
Weight: 185Lbs/82 Kg

Length: 29 inches/74cm

Width: 22 inches/56cm

Height: 20 inches/51cm

Compressed Air Capacity: 24 SCFM/11 lsec at 100 psi/7 bar at 8 gpm/30 lpm

Pressure Range: 1000-2000 psi/70-40 bar

Flow Range: 7-9 gpm/26-34 lpm

Optimum Flow: 9gpm/34 lpm

System Type: HTMA Type 2

Motor Porting

Inlet: 12 SAE O-Ring

Outlet: 16 SAE O-Ring

Air Outlet: 1/2 inch NPT Pipe

Motor: V-360C Timken Bearing 2-5/8 X 2

Completely unnecessary, but for the job sites I go to and how much time I spend at the junkyard, having that much air flow on demand and available means no generator, no "toss the air compressor in the bed", no "the battery's aren't charged" and no more "shit the cord doesn't reach" Pull up, pull out the air tools, plug in and go. Not to mention I could probably set the record for fastest aired up tires on the trail ever :D

You could probably feed your turbo with it for instant boost!

You know I had tossed an idea similar to that around way back when I was still in school. Some kind of small air tank with a nozzle and quick release valve in the cab that, when activated, would blast the turbo with air getting it to spool not only instantly, but without having to rev the engine. Great for those... stop light races where you don't have time to sit there and spool the turbo while trying to make sdure the tires don't come unglued. Just dump the valve and go. I would imagine you could get a few seconds of "insta-spool" out of something like a 2.5 gallon air tank with 1" I.D. hose going into the turbo.

Damn you Matt. Giving me more dumb idea's:eek::skep:

:D:D Rock auto redeemed themselves from shipping me that wrong rotor yesterday. I got in the proper seals for my hubs and pressed them in almost as soon as I got inside. Packed the bearings(force of habbit) and loaded everything up. Everything fit perfectly. Bearings are preloaded, rotors are on and I'm currently finishing the last coat of paint on the calipers and mounting brackets before they get loaded with pads and mounted. I'm totally psyched!! Big Blue should be sitting on her ass end again by the end of the week!:hihi:

Also got the shifter boots in From Northwest Fab to complete my order for the parts that will operate my transfer case. Also in the final stages of choosing a new PTO from Chelsea to run my hydraulic pump.
