started working on it about 1 pm yesterday, didn't finish it but ended at about 9 pm.
replaced the 4 GP's on the right side and reworked the turbo drain on the bottom. the
old hose was dry and leaking.
here it is before:

nothing special.
_______
start teardown, removed air filter, top intake, boot, bypass oil filter:

tried to remove the turbo bolts but it wasn't happening so i took out the manifold, one of
the reasons it took longer. of course disconnected the crossover, turbo discharge, and manifold
bolts and turbo oil discharge.(and i dropped the donut but didn't realize it)
DSC00286-1.jpg

big empty space now. look at oil return, not seated properly, oil leaks:
DSC00291-1.jpg

this is a GM3 so if anyone is needing one, let me know. i will clean it up. no play.

heated nuts w/ torch and they came off w/ ease axcept one. it would have been a pain to remove
still installed:

removed oil drain,

cut at the right spot, nice clean slice:

then modded the connection using step drill and cutoff wheel:
DSC00296-1.jpg

installed, cut off (shortened) allen wrench, don't forget supplied gasket:
DSC00297-1.jpg

marked intake for removal:
DSC00293-1.jpg

used thin cut-off wheel, clean slice:

ATT bolted up after exhaust put back w/ NeverSieze:
DSC00303-1.jpg

clocked, ready for boot:
DSC00301-1.jpg

DSC00298-1.jpg

oil feed to supplied fitting and boot on:
DSC00317-1.jpg

exit installed. for me, it was easier to mount to down pipe then install to turbo. had a time
trying to get it mounted w/ the exit on the turbo because there just wasn't enough hands to
hold it and tighten clamp:

Boot Shot, diesel porn:

i will be using the same intake filter i had on the GM3 so i am hoping i don't get a
collapsed filter.
finished install:

this vid is dry start up to preload the turbo with oil. let it crank for 15 seconds:

this is the first start up after install. the smoke from under the hood is because i left the
donut off the crossover. i did put it back on though:

hear is the exhaust but didn't notice a change there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6BfzID_qvc
where the change is that i noticed right off, under the hood. around 1600-1800 rpm, it
sounds like a semi truck and it sounded good! a little whistle if locked in 1st and hit
the pedal. boost was 2 psi at 1900 rpm but i have a 30 psi gauge so don't know if it's accurate.
acceleration on overpasses was better than before and feels like it has more acceleration
on the flats. filter is holding up so far but just drove 20 miles or so. will be
driving 120 miles tonight on a work run.
will keep posted.................

Nice job, deejaa ... thanks for the pics!

A few thoughts from the old guy...

a] Good idea to change Glows on that side while you were in there... how young are your injectors?

b] I had the same problem with my oil return line... it wasn't seated properly right from factory. Makes me wonder just how long it had been slowly leaking.

c] IIRC, Matuva found a better hose assembly somewhere that you might want to check out. I'll see if I can find pics of it.

d] you might want to think about changing your air intake... hot underhood air won't help your IATs much. You're a pretty innovative guy, I bet you can come up with something new for that.

Good install, thanks again for the pictorial... show-and-tell wins every time!

my pleasure. i already have an idea for the intake but i need to move both batteries to the frame first.
injectors aren't but a year old.

I did use the supplied hose for a couple weeks and installed this in it's place. Two hump hoses with a 3 inch steel pipe in the middle. hence the 4 band clamps.

Awesome !!!

Now, I think you should trade me that ATT for both my gm-3 and gm-8.. ;)
run 'em compound?
i am really liking it. the rumble that it makes sounds like it's coming from the crossover pipe. sounds better and better.

Nice work on all the good pictures. Is this the truck with gear vendors unit? And I assume it has 4.10 gears.
yes it is. it's my daily driver w/ 4.10's. i filled up Mon on the way home from work, have driven over 480 miles and am about to hit half a tank but you know that the gauge will drop fast from here. hoping to get over 600 miles from a tank but i will see after i get home tomorrow.

Turned up the pump at all?

I've been waiting for a 1993 to post up an A-Team!

X2 on hot under-hood air. NOx goes through the roof and intake temps do as well by several hundred degrees from the hotter intake air to the turbo.

pump is a rebuilt military unit. as far as i know it is untouched. used the top electrics from my old pump.
i will soon be putting in a cold air intake soon. looking for some trays that aren't too expensive so i can put the batteries on the frame. need the room. i could make them but my time doesn't seem to be there like it used to be.

i have the bypass oil filter mounted on the pass side inner wheel well. it is so tall and the nut on the top of it needs to be reached to change filters it is a pain to do it under the truck. you can see it in the first 3 pics at the top. i want to put the washer reservoir on the drivers side where they go on the 96(other years also but not sure which) so i can free up that space also so i want them both on the frame.
i will start a post on what i have found as far as battery boxes that mount to the frame............

You could put a tool box in the bed and mount the batteries there..
that is an option also but i plan on putting the 100 gallon fuel tank back there when i see if the 'Super Fuel' is what it says it is. (think i might buy a cheap small diesel engine to test it on.) that is where my main fuel supply will be.

Mileage Update................

after installing the ATT last week after removing the GM3, and was able to keep mileage at a constant on the freeway, around 66. drove a total of 614 miles on a tank, used 33 gallons, no A/C. figured 18.6 mpg w/ the GV and the ATT. this is w/ 4.10 ratio. feels like i need to dial in the IP timing a little better though. don't know if that will affect mileage or not.

another mpg update.........
this week i drove 70 instead of 65 mph , 95% freeway, 595 miles on the tank, figured out to 19.8 mpg.
going to put in a 195° TS and turn up the fuel when i get a chance.

Man, i need to get rid of my GM-4.. I average 18ish on the highway now. With my gears id have to break 20... Plus putting in the 195 stat instead of the 180 will help too!
