88GMCtruck's 98 Silverado Towpig Build: "Black Fox"

Hey buddy, I'm doing pretty good. I went deer hunting, but only saw one doe within shooting distance and didn't get a shot at her. My dad got a very nice 12 point buck, and is getting it mounted. I'm gonna make a new post with what's going on with me in a bit, actually.

Thats a mighty nice looking Suburban You got there.
The tow rig is a thing of beauty too. :)
Thanks on both accounts!

You just can't quit can you... Looking forward to the thread on the new burb Dave
We shall see if it gets a thread of just interjects randomly into the dually thread and hopefully the 88 thread here soon. It's not really a "project" like the 88..... The parts pile on that one is building up quick. It's happening.... soon.

One more toy!
All the toys! Honestly missed the clattery sound. Alot. But I'd never tow like I do with my 454 with one so a random run around was the next best option.

Nice Burb, time to get started on it. It is winter so you need a great indoor project......:)
Mostly just want it up and reliable, nothing too crazy.

You have too much time on your hands. :p
Actually I'm really busy but it's my own doing.

Very nice burb. I will be looking again within a year or two and would prefer a Burb, but trucks are a lot easier to find for cheap.

Around here it's completely opposite. Trucks hold their value like crazy and the SUVs are dirt cheap.

I think most trucks have plows Here, or have had plows and are severely rotted out. Just seem to find a lot more trucks vs burbs listed for sale. Prolly helps you can find a 1500/2500/3500 silverado/sierra vs just Burbs.

I really want a burb to slap a plow on. I need a large family vehicle as I have my company truck and the wife’s JKU. The JKU is not comfortable for 4 adults and a car seat. If you ever want to part with it in the next 1-2 years hit me up!

Nice looking burb, welcome back to 6.5L life! :) Any replacement history on the engine? I am a little worried about it being a 97, but hopefully if it lasted this long she should be one of the good ones!

I haven't a clue on the engine, and have been lazy to check the casting number/date. My thoughts was at 277k it is a good one or was replaced...

Not been much going on with this thing for awhile now.

I did remove the Z71 Guard.

Then spent 8 hours or so fully detailing it inside and a out....

And parked it in my GMT400 playground. The 88 is looking a bit sad... some updates are in it's thread though, it shouldn't be sad too much longer!

Well it has been more than a minute since I've checked in on here...

A slight style change - installed factory "4x4" stickers on it again. I like the style of them and their OEMness. Just something different.

Few misc camping shots. Some of these should totally be in a GM recreation brochure or something LOL.

Been using the suburban a bit more, since it's easy to leave the camper on and it gets WAY better economy, and honestly it's more of a "beater". I did put heated seats in it, and found hood and grille with better paint, upgraded the lighting, installed 4" exhaust....

Took a nice trip on memorial day out in the sand. My happiest place on earth.

But, on the way home... the way home... the GD MFing thing started making sound... from the trans/transfercase.......... AGAIN.

5th gear backed off on the transmission, which pushes on the input shaft of the transfercase case and destroys it... So this week these got sent out for a nice day at the spa...

good that You caught the sound. Some people are clueless when things like that happen and end up with a destroyed transmixer and or T~Case.
Really nice looking rigs You have there.

Yeah, ya do have an eye for advertising pictures.
Sux on the metal masher. If that Suburban is a beater, you should have seen some of my rigs...

To me, that Suburban looks show room mint.

It's fairly clean, but not clean like my dually is. The interior is in ok shape but the carpets stained up (although not torn/trashed like my 98 parts suburban was, this is just dirty). It's slowly getting better the more i tinker with it. It was a $1,600 partially running with slipping reverse and overdrive, i'm pretty sure it would have ended up in the junkyard had it not came to live here. I'm fairly certain with a good cleaning inside and a cut & buff it would be a pretty spiffy rig.

But let me tell you, it's nice to have something that i'm not worried about tossing the dogs in, or getting the seats/floors dirty. Just kinda of not caring (lol it's hard for me actually) and just using it / keeping it mechanically sound.

Long overdue update. Summer was brutally busty for me.

Got the Trans and T-Case back shortly after the last update, slapped it in and got on with life.

After it was together, finally got around to adding a video splitter and side view cameras to the truck. I also upgraded the side backup lights with the boost auto modules. WAY brighter.

Truck started running like crap and backfiring on the way home, turns out I blew a lower intake gasket. It's all fixed back up now complete with a tune-up as well.

Haha, sounds like never a dull moment on your trips lately!

Glad to see your still going with these rigs, trucks look great as always.
