6l90 behind a 6.5

So he put his paddle shifter on it. He had to pull the tcm out of the tranny and send it to the guy in AZ to get him to make it work for him. So now if he has it in d4 it's a normal automatic trans if he puts it in d3 it allows him to use the paddle shifter and once he hits the paddle it becomes full manual until his goes back to d4paddle shifter.jpeg

If there's any more info your guy could share that would be great; pictures, wiring diagrams, dimensioned sketches, custom fab or bolt on products used, diesel unique shift programs; that would be great! I know there's a few people interested in this upgrade, myself included!

Yeah that is cool. If you get the info who the guy in Az is (if that guy wants more customers) then share that info possibly.

So my buddy came by with his truck just a few minutes ago. Took me for a ride to show me all the adjustments he had made. I was pretty impressed with how quickly it accelerated, the extra gear seems to allow the engine to stay in the power band better. Now with the paddle shifter he can lock up the torque converter in every gear except 1st IIRC. Be interesting to see what difference it makes when he gets towing.
He was listing off what he considered the must have mods and they were water pump with electroviscous clutch, fluid damper, ATT, 4" exhaust, and turned up pump. So he went from a truck that he was skeptical of it doing much of anything to one he feels pretty confident in.

Wiring diagrams come with the PCS controller. The TPS wiring and RPM signal connection will vary based on how you want to get those on your particular setup.

We might share our calibrations after they are tested a little better. There's no VIN locking on a A6 TCM so it's really open for anyone to play with. As long as you understand it's easy to kill one with tuning mistakes.

They aren't a secret. They are one of the only authorized dealers for the PCS controllers. Chances are, you were already on their site and just didn't realize it yet : )

Why'd he have to pull the TCM? You can just flash a calibration with HP Tuners which he should already have to be programming the trans?

Would an OBDII PCM need re-flashed to have a manual transmission? Does the stock pigtail that would go into the 4L80 just plug into the PCS wiring for easy plug and play? The harness that you sell Quadstar, is it the same as what PCS manufactures for distributors, or do you modify it based on what the buyer has? Can the instructions be posted here?

Yeah, we'd recommend flashing the stock PCM to manual for a proper swap. It'll run programmed as an auto but will toss codes so the final touch would be to program it correctly, in out opinion.

The harness is not entirely plug and play. It's recommended to do new home runs for the power and ground to the PCS controller, or any aftermarket controller for that matter. We are making pieces like a plug and play breakout harness for the crank sensor and TPS on DS4 trucks, however. More details to come in the following weeks for sure 👍

Here's our 6L80 mocked up to the stock NP241. Plan is to have this one in our dually by the end of next week with the stock BW4401.

You can't use the stock tcase with a 6L90 easily so we went with the 6L80 here to be able to write up all the instructions. This one is from a wrecked Caprice cop car and we just inspected it and put the Sonnax Zip kit in plus a new filter.

if someone did want to do a 6l90 you'd need to get the transfer case that goes with it. Been told if you get it from a work truck model it will be a floor shift

Yeah, you have to go with a newer case if you go 6L90. Have to plan ahead before acquiring a transmission because you don't want to be stuck with the wrong combo for your needs.

We have all the variations listed in PDF files to send with the controllers. We have a customer here in PA doing the 261XHD behind a 4wd 6L90 behind a DB4 P400. The exact extra steps necessary are will be custom work on that particular truck.

You do not have to go with a newer transfer case to run a 6l90. You can very easily run the np241 behind a 07-10 6l90e. Swap out the stock 32 spline input shaft for a Dodge 29 spline input of the same year as your case(there was a change in the gear pitch around 95/96), and bolt it up. This combo is in use behind Allison's right now, and they use the sane 29 spline output. The 261xhd can be used, but it does require grinding to fit with the torsion bar crossmember, and you either have to get the slip shaft eliminator for the front shaft, or switch to the new style front shaft.

Here's a 2013 6L80E in our dually with the factory BW4401 bolted on using our adapters and torque converter.

It has full manual tap shifting with paddles since it's programmed with a car operating system in the TCM. Still working out some bugs so we can put more miles on it. This is the time of year that things get really busy so progress may be slow in the coming weeks.

(We put DEI heat shield around the trans lines by the exhaust crossover after these photos were taken)
