4l80e dust cover and torque rods...

The housing below the torque converter held on by 6 bolts is known as a rock guard. You can run without it and find out what happens if a rock gets in there. Post up a WTB ad for one. I remove the bar from the engine mount to the bottom of the bell housing rock guard as IMO it's simply in the way. I am sure it's there for a reason, but, towing heavy I haven't found it running without. Maybe snow plowing?

I had a trans break the bellhousing once on a 2wd rig. My transmission guy saw it and said "Where is the support bar? No wonder!" Only tims I ever saw it happen, but that could be why I guess. I would think all the hummer abuse- they would break not using them- but never a problem. Maybe the xfer case is a counterweight to the force?

I think i have an extra cover here- have to check.

If you do I'd say 3 hail Marys and put in a good word if my opinion with the big guy matters;)
He may just be surprised to hear from me.
Seriously, if you do, shoot me a price.
I can maybe fab up the bars.

I didn't have it for him folks. Does anyone know on the flywheel cover, would the th400 and 4l80e be the same to help him widen his search?

As for the rods, just some 3/4" schedule 40 steel pipe. Heat and hammer the ends flat, then drill the holes. Round the edges of the smashed pipe area with a grinder and paint them up. Of course, having the cast flywheel dustcover is needed first...

Mine came off when the P-400 went in as the shield needed fabrication to fit the new motor. Never messed with it and have since towed a bit without issue.

Had since talked with the local tranny shop and they usually remove the shield when they know the customer is going to tow as it holds in heat.

Might still have my old shield, but then again maybe not as the wife went 'cleaning' in the garage which usually means I have to re-buy spare parts . . . Let me know if there is interest as I have no plans to ever install the shield.

Not 100% certain, but many 2 wheel drives didn't get but a stamped steel cover and no support bars while pretty much all 4x4's got a cast cover and support struts off the motor mount plates. 4x4's got the support rods because the transfer case can put extra strain on the trans case, espescially if a ujoint goes, and it is known to break the bell housing(hence why 4x4's pretty much always got them, and 2 wheel drives normally didn't).

Also search for them on breadtrucks tha are 2wd because they have the driveline parking brake that weighed a bunch. Both mine had them. Gasser and the diesel.
