Hey there, I have a 1995 Gmc 1500 4x4 I blew up my 5.0 the other day but have acquired a 1995 Chevy 2500 4x4 with a 6.5 turbo Diesel, I was wondering what it would take to swap it over? Frame on the 2500 is shot and the motor has 102,000km along with a rebuilt trans. If anyone has done this swap and could tell me what all is involved swapping between the two trucks! Thanks everyone!

I`m not knowing what would be involved.
At least You have the donor vehicle setting right there so it should not be too much, the 6.5 was available in the 1/2 tons so it would be a doable swapover.
Welcome to the truck stop 95.

Thanks for the welcome! And yeah that's what I was thinking, was just wondering if the complete front to back harness has to go in?

If you want to stay factory and run the electronic ds4 injection pump and the rest, then you've got your work cut out for you. In 95 GM made each wiring harness vehicle specific, so I can tell you the engine harness, underhood harness, fuse panel, both bulkhead plugs for driver and passenger are different, dash harness, rear harness, cluster, numerous modules, basically anything dealing with the engine, monitoring it, and so on is different. So you better hopethe diesel harness has every feature your truck has or else custom harness building is in your future. The dash harness has wiring for the low coolant module, apps, diesel ecm, extra wires for the cluster, underhood harness is diesel and trans specific, and even some things like ac pressure switches can be different for diesels. Now if you convert the 6.5l to a db2 mechanical pump, your biggest hurdle would be shifti,g the 4l80e trans or running your gasser tachometer.

I have the donor truck and my truck tore apart now, just tearing out the old harness for the 305 then putting the diesel harness through

Take pics as you go. Good for future reference for yourself and fun show and tell for us. Also if you hit hiccups along the way we can see what you are lookin at exactly.

You will have to remove the entire dash from both trucks to swap the harness's. You will also have to get creative to swap in the hydro boost as your 305 has a vacuum booster.

I thought that was @n8in8or project Ford for a second.

Like @Will L. mentioned: Don't overlook the 6.5TD specific front bumper and air scoops behind it. The Nose holes help keep the diesel cool with the too aerodynamic body style. Note the 1995 pictured has an upgraded 9 blade cooling fan.
