With the help of my little angle grinder and the input from you guys the bracket is now installed and looks like it is inline with the other pulleys.
I have attached some pictures to show how much I removed.
Perhaps one day I will find some missing part in the garage that will answer this...
I am concerned that I may not have been detailed enough when originally stating the problem and this is preventing you smart guys from resolving this issue for me.
I pulled my 1997 engine and stripped all of the exterior components and kept them in my garage. The engine rebuilder obtained a...
I removed the vac pump and the condition still exists.
It appears that there is a portion of the casting that is stopping the alternator bracket from seating against the head (see pictures)
I also tried to fit the steering pump on the other side and that does not want to fall into place...
I have added some arrows to one of your pictures that hopefully will clarify where I am looking.
Basically it is the large bracket that holds the alternator and pulley tensioner. is there something between the bracket and cylinder head?
There are (2) holes at the top of the cylinder head...
NOTE: This is a 1994 block with 1997 heads in a 1997 truck. My Alternator is on the passenger side.
I am re-assembling my engine and when I fit the alternator bracket the pulley wheels are misaligned. I have attached some pictures to show the gap between the bracket and cylinder head when the...
I was thinking about this on the way to work today.
I would recommend pulling the coolant crossover pipe and checking for bubbling coolant.
It takes less than an hour and will help with the decision process.
Mine was very active on the drivers side and sure enough the valves were rusty...
Here are the numbers from my compression check.
1 = 380 - 2 = 340
3 = 380 - 4 = 320
5 = 400 - 6 = 320
7 = 280 - 8 = 360
I pulled the engine because it was a rebuild and only had 10,000 miles on it and I wanted the rebuilder to replace the engine. Also the anti freeze had got into the...
I was (unknowingly) starting my engine with one bolt for a couple of weeks. I thought the starter motor was going out as it was making strange noises.
Unfortunately the lonely bolt became loose on a cold and wet Friday evening and there was only the sound of a starter motor spinning freely...
I can see myself waking up in the middle of the night with sounds of valves shattering until this engine is actually running.
I have a longblock and am installing the gears for the Injector pump.
Please have a look at these pictures and let me know if I am aligning everything correctly...
Would you believe that it was camouflaged!
I actually looked at that location and convinced myself that it connected somewhere in the middle of the block.
My biggest regret in this whole engine replacement project is that I did not take a picture of each and every stage so as to avoid...
I have a 1997 Suburban that I am trying to fit a remanufactured Engine.
My inital problem was that I couldn't find anywhere to fit my turbo oil feed line.
I then discovered that on the original engine there was an oil pressure sensor mounted between the two heads towards the back of the...
