    M816 wrecker

Son? I haven't heard that in a long, long time. I wonder whether we've crossed paths? I started wrenching on Army stuff as a civilian mechanic at the Ft. Lewis main shop in '77, and in '85 was picked up as a field representative for the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command. I was assigned...

    M816 wrecker

When you put the turbo on, make sure that, if your 250 is one with vents between the intake and the crankcase, you block them. When you pull the intake manifold you might see in each port that there's a hole drilled that ports bypassed combustion gasses from the crankcase into the intake. Most...

    M816 wrecker

Nope, not the Goat's fault. Pretty sure I didn't even imply that. It was just some bonehead company's way to try to sell a less than brilliant idea to the military. My only problem with the Goat is working on them. You have to roll it to get to all of the zerks in the driveline and by the...

    M816 wrecker

We tested an experimental parachute release system using a Gamma Goat and it didn't go real well. A lot of stuff that gets airdropped is damaged from getting drug around after it's on the ground so they developed these release bells that sensed that the load was on the ground by the slack in...

    07 LBZ Fuel Pump Relay

The pins were a problem on my truck too! Actually the TPA's on the engine harness Delphi plugs (the clips on the back side of the plugs that hold pressure on the backs of the pins so that they don't back out of the plugs). I was getting all kinds of random codes for cam sensor and stuff like...

    07 LBZ Fuel Pump Relay

Thanks for the ideas! It's been a couple of years since I went over the wires and looked for rubs and checked the grounds so it wouldn't hurt to do that again for sure. I have a Tech2 and set of factory manuals and have run every scan in the book and everything is within limits and no codes...

    M816 wrecker

Nice job on the M816! I don't know how I never noticed this thread before. I always said that if I could choose any truck the Army had it would be an M816 or M936. I prefer the manual transmission option of the M816 personally but I'd really like to have more gears. A Cummins doesn't like...

    07 LBZ Fuel Pump Relay

I've been trying to figure out whether I need to change out all 7 of the same style relays in my fuse box but can't find any info on why GM has changed the part number - twice. Even the dealer hasn't been able to help. Does anyone here know anything about these relays? I don't want to blindly...

    Beverage Poll

Poll said favorite and I like coffee (I perk it in an old fashioned percolator) but have to keep it to 2 cups a day. If the poll asked what I drink the most of it'd be good old water. We're on a well and my water is sweet and clean (and tested regularly, just to be safe) so none of that...

Its lift pump time just have a few ? before I hit the buy button

I completely understand that things happen and figured there was no reason I couldn't wait a bit for the dealer to work it out. The main lesson is to buy from a know, reputable dealer, like the site sponsors here. I've done so many installations over the years that this is not the first...

Its lift pump time just have a few ? before I hit the buy button

I really like the FASS product but their customer service is the worst I've ever dealt with. As long as you just want real basic info you're good to go but if one of their dealers screws up you're on your own. One of their dealers shipped me the wrong kit and kept promising me they'd send me...

    Toilet Paper. Over or Under?

I have to go with over. That's the way my mother did it and that's the way my wife does it, and I don't want to die over putting a roll of TP on wrong... Does anyone else remember when Dear Abby asked this? It got heated! She finally had to stop it and say she wouldn't respond to any more...

    Brake Question for the pro's

That's the first I've heard of putting the 1 ton cylinders on a 1/2 ton. I've heard of it being done on 3/4 ton trucks. Okie Dokie.

    Brake Question for the pro's

You don't want to change the hydraulics. Everything is matched and changing the cylinder size can have a drastic - and very unsafe - result. Better to stay stock or change everything from the master cylinder on.

    '06 GMC manual transmission!?

My factory set of shop manuals for the 2007 Classic has the manual transmission overhaul info and has data for when it's used with the LBZ Duramax. Might have been a hold-over from the 06 manuals but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some out there, like special orders for the railroads or...

    Rebuilding of a Truck Camper

I'm tearing into mine today too. My right rear jack is loose and I'm not sure whether there's wood damage there and can't get to the area very well because of how the shower stall sits in there so am going to pull the skin on the right side and check everything out. I pulled the windows and...

    Weird handling while braking

First checks I'd make would be to look at your calipers and make sure one isn't binding and then look to see whether your shoes or pads are soaked with oil or fluid. They'll grab like crazy if soaked, like from a blown wheel cylinder or bad axle gasket.

    Rebuilding of a Truck Camper

This has been a great project to watch and it's really great to see it so close to finished. Fantastic job! Can't wait to see the post of you sitting in a campsite with it!!

    6.2 military DB2's

There are some posts on the Steel Soldiers website that'll answer your questions. Basically the same pumps and usually low hours, often replaced trying to figure out a problem and didn't really have anything wrong with it, though not always. They're run on JP4, not diesel, so lubricity is...

Stanadyne DB2 Detailed Overhaul and Operation Instruction Manual

That's a good one! We had just started doing these when I worked in the fuel room and that was about 30 years ago. I probably only did a dozen and am rusty as can be on them. I have several here that I've pulled off of engines so am going to have to get real familiar with this. Thanks!
