I just yank the whole inner fender wells. The first time you take them out is usually a hassle with rusted bolts, especially under the batt trays. But just put them back in with grease on the bolts, and you can pull the tires and inner fenders in 3 minutes the next time. (with impact wrenches)
You can fit a 14 bolt semi float or full float axle onto a 1/2 ton truck, but only if the 14 bolt came from a 3/4 ton truck. One ton trucks have a heavier frame, and the spring-to-spring width is narrower: 40.5 inches wide, verses 42.5 inches wide on 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. Follow that link to...
One sign of a worn out IP is hard starting, especially when hot. Hot fuel is thinner, and a pump with excessive internal clearances can't generate enough pressure. I have read of people pouring cold water on the IP to get it to start when hot.
From the part number list in Technical, 4779 is a 1990 c/k heavy duty 6.2 pump. From what I have read on here myself, the db2829 pumps can be turned up to supply plenty of fuel. The main question is are the plungers and head healthy enough in that pump.
I emailed Penninsular last week but got no response, I'm hoping someone here knows.. They list 6.5 NA and 6.5 turbo heads. What is the difference, the pre cups? Are their heads GEP parts? Is it possible to buy GEP heads bare?
Does anyone have experience with the factory reman IP, part number 19209059? Gmpartsdirect has it for $811 with $70 core. Or is a new one for around $1200 a better bet?
I think it's probably just low tech failsafes to keep the engine running for people who never change their oil and filter. I worked in a machine shop in the 80's and we saw engines that had literally never had an oil change. The valve covers fill up with sludge to the underside of the cover. The...
That diagram does help, where did that come from?
From what I understand, one valve lets oil flow bypass the cooler when the oil is super cold and flow resistance is high. The other valve bypasses the filter if the filter becomes plugged up. Old school chevys have a valve that does the same...
It is much harder to convert a 14bff than what he described. Semi float 9.5 inch 14 bolts were common on suburbans. All it takes to convert a semi float is to order new axle shafts and swap them in.
I have done it the hard way a few times on my offroad race truck, by plugging the 8 lug pattern and redrilling the 5 or 6 on 5 1/2 inch pattern. It is way more work than it is worth to do it that way. Geartech makes hubs, but there are other issues and drawbacks. The main problem is the center...
She's back! Thanks Missy! I plan to yank all those relief valves and tap/plug the passages as needed. Maybe I can plug one of the cooler ports and one of the filter ports to get a direct shot from the pump to the filter/cooler. I live in az so no need to worry about super cold oil flow. And...
Does anyone have a link to an oil passage diagram? I want to block off either the cooler passages or the filter passages, and instead run a single cooler/remote filter circuit.
I recall something odd about the 94 ds4 - something that requires a distinctly different IP part number for the affected models. Was it a problem with the earliest models? How do you identify the odd ones, and what are the solutions? I just bought a 94 6.5 blazer not running, so this is probably...
Agreed, gw, but I think you meant "multiple of 2:1". 20 psi is almost 3 times more cylinder filling than a naturally aspirated engine (14 psi boost = 2x, 21 psi=3x). Assuming fueling is keeping up, combustion pressure and therefore torque will also triple. 6.5s already have head gasket problems...
