    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

Old thread revival. Truck is still going good today with over 180k miles. I just wanted to thank everybody again. - Mike Taylor

    2005 4l80e in my 1990 K2500

Thank you Ferm. Back at it again with the priceless knowledge. All I can find locally (within 50 miles) is a 1995 C2500. Do you think the ecm out of a 2wd truck would work for me, if it was also a 5.7tbi/4l80e? My truck is a 4wd and if I'm not mistaken, the VSS is in the NP241c transfer case.

    2005 4l80e in my 1990 K2500

Hey guys. I posted in my build thread about the 4l80e I bought today. Apparently a 2005 model from a 2500hd. Excited to tear it down and get the rebuild going. If I install it in my 1990 K2500, which currently has its stock TH400, will I have any issues getting a standalone controller like...

    Mike's 1990 K2500, "The Black Pearl"

First update; Today I scored a 2005 4l80e out of a 2500hd, for $400. Sale included the transfer case and front and rear driveshafts. Think I made out really well. Apparently the components have 125k miles. I will be rebuilding the trans and probably selling the Tcase. Unless I find some...

    Mike's 1990 K2500, "The Black Pearl"

Hey guys. Figured I would start a build thread for my truck. The current plan for Pearl is to travel with her. My wife and I just got married two weeks ago, and the goal is to travel for about a month or so next summer, with a slide-in truck camper in the bed. Pearl is a 1990 GMC K2500 C6P...

    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

Trans has been back in for about two weeks. Seems I might have done okay. In total it appears to have taken 13-13.5 quarts. Everything engages well. 1-2 shift is a bit more of a bump, and I thought something was wrong. However I remembered I never adjusted the new adjustable vacuum modulator...

    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

I have (5) ALTO USA part #031702A200 friction discs. I also have (5) EXEDY FDF part # DAG02430. They are both appropriate for either the forward or direct clutch in a 3L80 according to their respective catalogs. I intend to use the ALTO frictions in my forward clutch, and the exedy frictions...

Found the dished plate in the direct clutch cracked in two.

Understood. That's super solid advice. That's why I try to refer to this awesome forum before I make choices lol. I suppose I will be on the hunt for a trans shop willing to sell me parts. Not sure if there are any trans suppliers nearby. Thanks again. I am planning on using an ATSG manual...

    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

I've been doing a lot of reading, a lot of watching videos, and lot of researching and I've decided I'm going to take a crack at a rebuild on the 3l80 myself. The only thing I'm unsure of is what kind of rebuild kit to go with. After quite a bit of window shopping, I've found a kit from an...

Thank you for that Will. That makes sense. After driving for a while earlier today, after adding the half-quart, we arrived to a store and the truck was able to engage reverse in its slippy manner again. I think Dexron VI is the reason my transmission is not happy anymore. It would make sense...

    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

On the way to the keys for the weekend today. Get the truck up to temp, on the way to get gas. Stop for gas, now reverse won't engage at all. Stop by a nearby Autozone, and get a quart of Castrol Transmaxx dex/merc, and add about half the quart after looking at the trans fluid level. I was...

Help in identifying this manual transmission?

Thanks guys. I won't be heading back in that case. I thought perhaps he had an SM465 which I probably would have bought off him even though it's 4th and final gear is still 1:1.

    1990 GMT400 TH400: Slipping when cold.

I have a lead I see. I'm not afraid of buying specialty tools if need be, even if I rarely use them. However I would hate to mess things up, given my inexperience working on transmissions, so I won't try to remove it myself. Is there any way I can clear the valve body screens while I'm in...
