Actual, honest, real world MPG from your 6.5

truck in my sig i get 13-16 mpg all city on winter fuel. 16-17 on summer fuel. thats with a hot air intake. waiting for a nice non busy day to get my stock one back in. hopefully with that and exhaust sytem ill get 18

Truck in my sig gets an average of 17 - 18 MPGs, all year long.
Speedo is exact according to GPS.
Before I switched to the tires I am running now, (265s)
it got almost 1 MPG more - but speedo was 3 MPH fast

Matt & I use the same spreadsheet to record this. Just write the truck's mileage on each fillup receipt & save them 'til you've got time to input the numbers. Once in the habit, it doesn't really take much time & provides good, real-world average mpg #'s.

Yes we do, thanks to you Darrin! It seems I use more fuel in the winter months than you do all year :) You get some great fuel mileage!! FUel is cheap compared to where I live too!

I drive super smooth and slow, as if I have an open cup of coffee on the dashboard. I'll give the KOJO tune a month or 2 then ATT just to get individual results.

Your fuel price in general is low....wish I could get fuel for under $3.00 a gallon.

Current price for the last 3 months is $3.15.....before that $3.09.

Burns my A$$!

I should check & see how much of the cost here is fuel tax. That's often more variable state to state than the station's wholesale per gallon cost.

When my current tires need replaced, I'm planning to add a little lift & go to 285/75's. No doubt that'll will whittle my fuel mileage down some. I like the stance of Kane's 'Burb & body lift will open up some additional clearance for a better downpipe config for my turbo project.

Matt, I wonder how much of the economy difference is the additional 3,000 lbs? Would also be logical the 2nd set of tires on a dually add some rolling resistance. Suppose the 5 sp might save a little fuel in conditions where the torque converter wouldn't be locked w/ the 4L80E?

I also run the PowerService silver bottle & 2-stroke oil for additional lube. Should prolly run a couple tanks w/o the PowerService to see what impact it might be having. So many folks I trust claim to have seen real gains, so I haven't checked myself yet.

I don't think my truck could be designed for any WORSE aerodynamics either... its just horrible... oftentimes whistling and something flapping.... Body and boxes just sticking out, ladder racks with dolly and a metal brake up high....

I think something about moving unsprung weight (dually rears, with heavy ass huge drums) is a direct shot at RW HP, more so than weight in the bed.

I do have poor TCC lockage programming where I'll be doing 45 unlocked in 3rd climbing a grade wishing it would lock. I'm hoping KOJO will fix this up to around 42 or so.

GPS says i'm going 66 when speedo says 65, so I may be 1% to 2% low on my readings also. Someone regurgitated the VSS thread up, and it made me remember this.

I also use Power SErvice (white in winter, grey in summer) and always SAE-30 ND, or 2-stroke, at around 2oz per gallon. If i'm too rich on the additive I can see it light smoke out the tailpipe at idle...

If this website's fuel tax info (st & fed) is accurate, looks like there's about 12 cents/gal difference in NY's & MO's state fuel tax.

Are there maybe additional county & city taxes on fuel in Brooklyn?

2 most significant things I've noted related to fuel economy are:

1. It will average a bit higher if mostly highway, but held to under 65 mph. Otherwise normal running w/ interstate traffic @ 75 mph seems to lower highway mileage to the point about equal to mixed city/hwy driving.

Yes, I forgot to mention that I've noticed the same thing - run around 70 and she gets about the same mileage as in town.

Where can I get a copy of this spreadsheet?

Thanks
Smitty

I just checked a few tanks and got 15.6 mpg. That's 1.5 mpg better than I was getting before getting it timed and TDC offset to -1.58 a few months ago.

Before I put the 265/275-16 tires on I ran 235/85-16 that came with it, not only skinnier but much lighter tires, and I got 16.5-17.

I think you have to link it as a file, not a URL (just guessing).

I consistently get about 18-19mpg combined, but I think they do something funky with our fuel in CA so it has less power and less efficiency. If I wasnt always driving too fast it might be better, my GF seems to get more MPG when she drives it while Im traveling.

I'm sure there is some ridiculous NYCity tax....Money bags, (Mayor Bloomberg) has left no stone unturned.

Very interesting numbers on that fuel tax info....PA and WI are surprisingly high.

13.8 MPG

13.8 MPG!

IDK how, but 13.8 hauling a 2900 pound 11.5 foot slide-in cabover camper through the canadian rockies, 13.8 empty on I-35. 13 point fricken 8!!!

Roughly 15 give or take .5 MPG. Open highway 17 all interstate... Rare.

Towing 4000lb trailer mid 13s

These numbers are for the '96 Sierra.

Suburban I do not have a lot of data on, but around 16-17 normal. 20 all interstate, again rare. Not bad for a big beastie.

I always add Stanadyne Fuel Treatment with fill ups. Not sure it helps mileage though. Hopefully it help the IP!

The biggest improvement mileage wise was from the exhaust and downpipe changeover. Also the 235/85 tires worked well, skinny... But these days I have fatties again.

... I really should go back to 195 t-stats. Numerous people have mentioned the mileage drop. I was more concerned about temps when I installed them.

Any mileage feedback for the ATT and KOJO crew?

12.5 Lots of driving lately. I also live in a very hilly, urban city area. Roads suck.

3/16/2010 135,719 12.153 $36.08 $2.97 135 11.108
3/20/2010 135,900 14.690 $43.91 $2.99 181 12.321
3/25/2010 136,123 17.847 $52.27 $2.93 223 12.495

I need to defend my beloved. I also have a small fuel drip. Doesn't spew when pressurized, so it either seals under pressure or is pre-WALBRO. I need to rework my plumbing anyhow, so just trying to get through winter. A few 3" spots driping off my frame every time I Park must be giving me a MPG hit. I'll be fixing this soon.

FWIW with a baffle-less fuel tank of 22 gallons, I start to show OOF symptoms right there. 17.5 gallons deep. I started puttering and threw a code as I rolled up to the fuel station :) Glowshift Fuel gauge read FULL. As it always does when I'm empty :) I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!

Without my rear tank working full time properly with balance module, or toggle, I have a range of only 222 miles :( Thats why I fill up so often if anyone wondered.

Can someone please tell me how to attach a file. Its only doing the linky internal error.

I get 20-24 (Imperial Gallons) haven't pulled anything yet, 33' tyres, four speed auto. Makes a big difference when I use the cruise on the hyway. I keep it in the neighbourhood of 65- 70 mph, between 1900-2100rpm. Engine and computer completely stock configuration.
