There are so many. Who is running what? Who has tried more then one brand? I just ordered Warpspeed crossover and 4" kit so the chip is next. Thanks for the info

I currently have Heath's GL4... I love it!

I used to have the old version of BD Performance's eeprom... I liked that too but Heath's is much better in my opinion. Right now BD Performance does NOT have their own "tunes"... I am in the process of trying to find out what tune they are running for the reflashes.

VT IMO save the chip for later, remote your PMD, best in the business is at www.heathdiesel.com look at cooling system upgrades before adding power, also do you have gauges yet.

Heath also sells best IMO chip/tune, the owner is running a slight modification of it at Bonneville Salt Flat, they set the worlds fastest 6.5 record with that tune, so no BS there when folks say it's top of the line as far as chips go.

I never even bothered with the GL4. I was quite happy with the V2. I think there is basically only Heath and whatever brand name someone is selling the westers under no ?

Actually, no. Surprising, but there are a few others out in the wilderness...

- Heath (I have a V2, also... love it!) Bill probably has the best (IMO) generic tunes in the business, built to his specs, carefully developed over time.

- Westers - Lyndon makes nice chips, especially if you can get to his shop in Tilley, Alberta... he does them on a dyno (he has a nice in-floor outfit) and custom tunes for your truck. He also makes generic 36 and 70-hp tunes.

- SS Diesel - Walt sells re-badged Westers tunes... not sure if they are simply generic or a custom variant, but they're all the same.

- Kennedy - John used to sell re-badged Westers chips, but then he bought Lyndon's custom software and has been making his own. I hear they're good - one member had one, had issues, John re-did it a bunch of times until it was good. Takes practice, and I'm glad he recognized that and was willing to keep working at it until the customer was happy.

- Stafan from ENGH motors - maker of GMTDscan - apparently has one out, too... I think Sunshine (Paul) might have one, or maybe Buddy. I heard it was OK, too.

BD and Hypertech used to make chips that were too raw and hot - damaged some engines, and overall didn't perform like the newer ones listed above. They may still be in the game, but I haven't heard from them for a while...

So, like I said, there's more of them out in the world than I would have thought at first, until I started thinking about it.

Good question, Kenny!

Hey Mamzerook... you got everything running again? I heard you had a Ka-boom...

You guys get through the fires OK this year?

I upgraded, now have a 2000 cc lb 6.5. I should update my sig i guess, eh? lol

The fires were all around us here, but never got us. I worked the fires here a while thru summer, but today i was in the snow!!!

Thanks for askin Jim, good talkin to you again.

I know Bill Heath better than most and know for a fact that he puts countless hours into his programs to make them as good as they get.

Hi Ian - good to see ya. How's the navy?

I know Bill does fabulous work with his chips and programs... I drive 'em, as do most of my buddies.

But some others do nice work, too, especially if you can get your truck on their rollers.

Like I said, Bill has the best generic tunes out there, IMHO.

Hey, a NEW one! Nice! We need Pictures!

I'm glad you got out of the fire ring OK... my son was in Kelowna early in the season, and it just wasn't cool.

Hi Ian, I thought you have disappeared! lol. So have you sold your truck yet? or decided to keep it? I thought you were selling anyways... :D

I ship out to OCS in Dec. right now I am planning a wedding and working on another truck that I sold all my parts to. We are going to try and hit the 350 wrhp mark some time in the next few weeks. I still have my truck for now but I think I am going to sell it to my brother. Other than that I am doing good, just putting in the wrench time on this other truck. David Kennedy of Diesel Power said he might do an article on it if we can set a new bench mark.

Cool, but is that 350 all engine or with drugs?

That is with drugs, I would love more than anyone to see it done with just diesel but as we all know untill a better pump and injectors are created I don't think it is going to happen.

I run the Engh Motors chip and it works absolutely awesome. If you want to run the vacuum system it probably works better than the Heath system. and the opposite if you want to run a manual wastegate actuator. Although now I have no wastegate actuator and it still works just great. I havent tried the Heath, would love to if someone wants to let me borrow one! The Engh chip is lower cost and no core return required, plus you can get the next best thing from Engh, GMTDScanTech.

Using the vacuum system has merit, and runs absolutely smooth and great when given the correct programming, like Stefan Engh does.

I also have stock cooling that you do and it works great still. I dont pull much all the time but the times I have had no issues, but it also wasnt in really hot weather either. I have driven through deserts empty with no issues.

If you dont have gauges, that is what you need now, but after exhaust youre ready to chip it. Its the most bang for your time and money, youll love it.
