All right, a little update on how things are with the motor.....
I have 500 miles on it now so I changed the oil & filter, 2 new fuel filters, new FRC 10 LP...
Hooked to the horse trailer and headed to the interstate for some break in time...
Stopped at a Cat Scale, 1/2 tank of fuel, no horses........ 15,500 lbs like it sits here, add 3000-4000lbs more and that will be close to how it will weigh loaded.
The stretch is from Spartanburg to Columbia SC, 90 miles each way, this is I-26... perty hilly, not mile long grades, just hill & hill. I did the run in 5th gear (OD), the best speed so far for the motor is 70mph @ 2300rpm's, this turbo is better than expected for low rpm pulling around here, with larger grades another gear works better I know, the big grade here is 7% for 2 miles or so, going to wait till motor is a little older before we work that hard.... but it's coming.
At road speeds of 65-70mph, I'm turning 2000-2300rpm's in 5th, I can roll into the fuel and the turbo has 25lbs boost at or just under 2000rpm, I can spool it at the bottom of a big hill and the EGT's will get high ( 1100-1200) if I let it, there is some smoke when it is spooled to 25lbs and pulling hard but not a coal smoke.
I can't back off the fuel screw any more than I have per the pump builder, so weighting 19,000lbs fully loaded this thing will do just fine, I will just drive it by the gauges because there is lots of power here that I can't use right now due to the egt's, think I will have another pump built but not as hot and see how it works.
Between now ans spring I will have a CAC & WMI installed and we will see how that changes things for the summer pulling and get ready for the rollers next spring.
Anyway, the motor has more power than I expected, the turbo, well, you would just need to feel & see it... for towing heavy, this thing works, spool's up to 25psi where I have it set, around 2000rmp's, so high gear pulling will be a good thing..
This is how we were testing today.... 15,500 lbs empty...
