why so many 6.5's

6.5 Diesel NUTCASE
Man, where to begin....
This is the very first diesel I've ever owned. I learned after doing a full rebuild and mechanical pump conversion just how simple, inexpensive, and easy to care for these engines are.
It does everything I ask of it, and gets decent fuel economy. Besides that fact, these C/K trucks are some of the best built, classiest looking rigs on the road. I constantly get compliments on how good the old truck looks, -and even more compliments and questions when some young whipper-snapper (in a truck he can barely afford the payments on) hears me whistle and rumble into a parking lot.
The 6.5 "group" are some of the best people I've ever run across. That is the one major reason I decided to hang tough and rebuild the engine in mine. Generally speaking, 6.5 folk are just plain good people (even the local 6.5'ers I've run across).
It's paid for, and not for sale anytime soon......:thumbsup:

Just looked through your re-build...wow! As a (fellow I'm guessing?) machinist, I can appreciate that attention to detail. You do some amazing work my friend.

I even went so far as to put a 6.5 in my truck...even removed a 350 to do so. Nobody seems to get what the holes in my bumper are for though :disappointed:.

funny. I do that all the time. Anytime I see a potentially qualifying vehicle, I'm looking for holes in the bumper. "No, lady, I'm not breaking my neck to check you out. All I wanted to know is if you have air holes in your bumper."

I happened to be out by the road doing the mowing and leaf thing today when I saw a white, extended cab, long bed Chevy with bumper holes coming towards me. The two older guys in the truck had no idea why this guy on a John Deere, towing a leaf vac, with radio headphones on was pointing at them and giving them the thumbs up...

I've noticed a lot of Dmax guys around here seem to get a real kick out of my 6.5. You just don't see that many around here, and IMHO, it sounds much better then the Dmax....they are just too quiet

There is a 6.5 4 dr tahoe around towh that has lights in the nostrils lol. I think they were put there for a reason..... not lights....

I'll bet that 4dr Tahoe is gas powered and came from the factory that way. IIRC, there are a handful of gas trucks with the "holey" bumpers from the factory. Speculation was that there was an excess of bumpers one year so they slapped them on the gas trucks and filled the holes with factory fogs...there used to be one that I saw in my parking lot frequently a few years back.

Different, but related question - was the 6.5 ever offered in a 4 door Tahoe?
For some reason I am thinking that I read (probably on the Page many years ago) that there were only 2 door diesels unless you went with a Suburban.

Most would consider this a lame story, but you 6.5 guys will dig it.
So, me and the boy pull into the local burger joint tonight, and the parking lot is PACKED, -I mean, no place to park at all, -and the drive-thru line is snaked through the parking lot.
So, not wanting to get trapped in the mess, I throw the trusty 4500 into reverse and give 'er a little go-pedal. Mind you, the pavement is wet, and the truck is empty (you know where this is going!).
My windows were a little fogged and it was dark, so I rolled down the side windows a bit so I could make sure I wasn't backing over anybody.
I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be headlights, so I kinda tromped on it a bit. The rear-end came loose, and I was feathering the tach at around 3500 or so. Man, the 4" pipe never sounded so good, and the little GM4 was whistling a nice tune.
Well, the headlights I saw were from an '07 Dodge, -luckily he avoided me. He also had his window down too, -so he got the full effect of the noises being made.
He got a big grin across his face and gave me a big ol' thumbs up!
That was my 6.5 moment of the day. ):h
