Which ATV?

I have been following all of these threads and reading up on everything I can, but I thought I'd ask. Which ATV is good for a heavy person? I am 6ft and weigh a solid 300 lbs. I see that most ATV riders are smaller and lighter, thus they go faster. I just want a good trouble free ATV that rides well, and is able to support my weight. I do not plan to go over jumps and get air born. I am to old for that. Any suggestions? Thanks for your insight.

4x4? 2x4? 850cc? 800cc? Power steering?
 
I'm 6'10" about 290 lbs and I have always had Honda's, they cost a bit more but the suspension will handle what I or my boys (who are gaining on me in size) throw at them.
 
My brother is a big guy and he has an Arctic Cat that he rides and plows with, never had any trouble and he's had it about 4 years.

I am with out at the moment, once the boys are done with school I am going with a Rincon for me and a Rubicon for my wife. The local dealer likes the Rincon for trail riding but suggests the Rubicon for work. My wife won't ride very often so I'll set hers up for around the property and leave the Rincon for trail riding.
 
Jeff, in your case, anything bigger than a 500 should perform just fine. Honda Rincons are a 700's (actually 675 and rounded up) and they outperform many others of similar displacement. They do have nuts so it should move you easily.

The Can Ams are 800's and those being a V-twin, supposedly have unbelievable balls for a 4x4 utility.
 
Thanks Mick and Nick! I have a local Honda dealer right near me, so I will check them out. They also carry Kawasaki and Yamaha. The nearest Can Am dealer is a little ride away. Is the Honda a 1 cylinder? The 2009's now have power steering.
 
The Rubicons have power steering as I think that was standard since 06? Not sure though. I just never understood why the Rubicons had it but the higher end model, the Rincon didnt have it.

Honda's are a single cylinder. For a single cylinder though, you'd be surprised at the low end beans its got.
 
My youngest is 16 (today) he's 6'4" about 250 lbs and he has a 1986 Honda trx200sx 2 wheel drive. He hooked an old plow I had out back up to his wheeler and put some ballast on the back and he is able to plow my drive way with it. 23 years of abuse and it keeps coming back for more.
 
Nobody with the Artic Cat 700 diesel? I don't want to go really fast, but I think I'll need some grunt for hills. I will check out the Rincon.
 
I havent heard real good things about that. I hear the price for those is ridiculous...
 
I have a 2002 Honda Foreman 450 and it has pretty good power with both of us on it. I weigh around 225 and the wife is a little over 100. When I get ready to trade I will go a little bigger for the next one. Dont really need it for the two of us, but it would be handy for some of the stuff I pull with it.
 
Those are gone already. My dealer was supposed to get me one when my 650 started crapping out but they never were able to get their hands on one.
$9500 was the price.

We have 2 Honda Foreman 450's and they are tough as nails. Not fast but very reliable. Rincons and cool but aren't meant for towing anything so if you tow I'd get a Rubicon. Once I get things sorted out with Arctic Cat :rolleyes5: :mad2: I'm going to get a new Foreman or Rubicon with Power Steering :thumbsup:

I have a 06 Honda 500ES Foreman 4x4, I was about 230 lbs when I purchased it new and have not had any problems yet. It tops out at about 58 mph (stock). I'm very satisfied with it and i'm always dragging something behind it. I don't think you can go wrong with a Honda as long as you do not go smaller then a 500, it just all depends on what kind of riding you prefer to go smaller then a 500 for your size. See my sig, Honda is one tough ATV. We trail ride and mine plows the sidewalks, pulls hay wagons. I had a 450 but moved up to the 500. We normaly put 1500-2000 miles a year trail riding, good reliable machines. Traded off my sons 250ex for the 400 last spring, that 250 had over 40k on it and still refused to quit, and it spent more time jumping than flat riding :)
 
Yamaha Grizzly. My dad has a 660...I love that thing. The new ones have even more power (700) with fuel injection and power steering. And might I add, Yamaha was the first with power steering. ):h We have never had a single problem with our Yamaha utility quads. We used to have a Big Bear 350...that thing took a lot of abuse and still runs great. My uncle bought that one from us. Yamaha just came out with a 550 grizzly with power steering too. The Grizzly 700 is "The ATV of the Year". If I were buying a new one it'd deffinately be a Yamaha Grizzly. I am partial to Yamaha but the reason for that is we don't have any problems with them.

I'm a Polaris guy 500 sportsman 02 left over bought in 03,Has 3,000 miles and 170 hrs on it and runs great, I'm 6'1 and 415 area now,Would have more miles on it but last 2 years I have only been able to ride alittle here and there, I just got my rotor cup fixed so hope to start riding again, Also the 800 Can am is fun to ride.
