If you build it right couldn't it be used as a generator? I bet it would be one of the most efficient generators out there. Just thinking!
Would take some powerful experimenting, and would not be fuel efficient, turbines make big power, but fuel efficient they ain't, they don't become viable power producers until you start figuring in HP to weight needs, quick start needs, low maintenance cost........which is why most efficient propusion set up for a ship is CODOG,
COmbined
Diesel
Or
Gas turbine, where you run Diesel for econ, and GT for speed/power best econ for aircraft is turbo prop with jet driving thru gear train a propeller, now once you up the ultimate power required makes more sense to go large hi bypass turbo fan, or if speed is need in aircraft low bypass turbofan, or large ships with the room for it multiple GTs .
Using a converted turbo as prime mover for a generator, you would also need a reasonably intelligent governing system to make sure frequency and voltage are correct as the load demand changes up or down.
Not saying it couldn't be done, but for work involved, just better off buying a stand alone gas or Diesel gen set, or trade the turbo to offset cost of a n/a 6.2 and make reasonably fuel efficent gen set capable of supplying whole house needs.
