More problems, I was driving yesterday and my truck lost ALL power and is smoking heavily. This is a whitish smoke and smells like raw fuel. I just filled up my tank and added one small bottle of lucas additive. My guess is an injector or two are sticking open or maybe a push rod has slipped off but the truck is not really missing, it just smokes bad and will only run about 10 MPH or maybe slower! It seems like I have done nothing but worked on this motor since I installed it. I am getting some air in the fuel lines and have tracked it down to where I need to pull the tank to fix but it was running fine until it started smoking and lost ALL power.

List and describe any other factors which are not addressed in this checklist. We can’t see, hear, smell, or touch your truck, so the more descriptive information you can give, the more likely it is that somebody can assist you.

Here is a start.

Loss of compression will/can cause that,...do comp test
Do injector test.
IP out of time?
IP took a crapper?...air is bad for IP's,...delivery valve sticking or stuck open?.

The GM manual says to fix the air problem, F I R S T !!!
The IP will do all kinds of things, except run properly, with air in the fuel. getting an IP like yours started for the first time will rain soot down in a open garage. Air in the system is just like priming the system.

Air compresses. So when the IP tries to deliver fuel any air compresses and reduces the fuel delivered and retards the timing to smoke white. So you have little fuel delivered late and thus no power.

I forgot to mention that while the truck is running there is NO air in my line. I installed a clear line to keep an eye on it. After the truck sits for over 4 hours or more is when I see the air. I bypassed the LP and it will not force the air out until I crank it over twice. 10 second cranks is all I do then let the starter cool for about one minute.

I have the same problem as the OP with the 6.2 in my wheelloader.I have a left and a right smokestack, pass side is smoking like there's no tomorow, engine won't rev worth a damm either
Got no air in the system, injectors tested OK. IP is next to new,no coolant loss or blowover
Compression test revealed low comp all 4 on that bank ranging from 250 to 320 psi, other side is 380 to 420.
i suspect a valve or ring problem or head gasket leaking between pistons.
I did not pull the head yet.

I guess the really odd thing with mine is that it happened all at once. It's not something that started off smoking lightly and slowly losing power! But it happened within 3 miles of my house when leaving for work on Wednesday.

Compression test buried my 300PSI gauge on every cylinder. Tomorrow I will pull the intake, fuel lines, and valve covers to see if the rocker retainers have broken & allowed the rockers to slip out of place. Hopefully this will be the problem.

"UPDATE" I found that teflon tape is NOT something to use on your fuel lines! My IP sucked in some teflon from a 3/8 fitting that I had installed. The tape got into the pump causing the valve to stick in the open position.

Wow! so shes running good now? Where did you install fitting? and this is on your 93?
