Hello Friends,

I have now a long time searched in the i-net and read, but I still don't understand it.

I have the DTC 87 - transmission gear ratio error

Can anyone explain please just that i understand what exactly does this mean?

My transmission shift good, but I have this code.

What exactly is the problem and how can i eliminate this?

Thank you in advance...

Gunar

Code 87 means that it is sensing a slippage in the trans in 3rd or 4th according to my alldata. It could be an internal trans issue, bad VSSB, bad speed sensor, or wiring issue. You really need a scan tool to see what the PCM is seeing to narrow it down.

This is a PC based program you run on a laptop to scan the truck. For the OBD1(94-95 6.5's), you have to use a GM TECH 1, GM TECH 2, or this program to set injection pump timing. And if your going to buy something to scan your truck, you might as well buy a tool capable of doing everything.

Thank you,

from this program, I have read several times and was also on the Web page...

And this program shows me exactly which part is the error ?

Gunar, these are two screen shots of what GMCTD tells you of transmission controls.

Hi Leo,

Thank you...

I'm going to buy me such a Scantool and then I will see what it is...

I must take a translation program for some special words and then with you or Google try to explore...

Thanks again...

Gunar, you may want to email Stefan Engh before you buy, the program may be available in your language.
