Would 1 revolution of the IP gear put the marks on the gear right back where the pump was before rotating pump shaft ?
Best to remove timing cover, install new chain and sprockets and with marks aligned then set the pump to match.

Best thing is to get the book and set the marks of the sprockets and pump gear to how it shows in the book.
