Tahoe motor rebuild

On Saturday I went to the Maple Grove swap meet and bought a remote oil filter adapter and a 6 blade flex fan for the 6.5. I think I will block the internal oil filter bypass in the block, and the factory oil line ports, and run dual 1515 Wix filters, and an oil cooler ,I guess the cooler should be after the filters, since hot oil will flow through the filters better.

I picked up my block today it is decked .010 and has new cam bearings installed,I also ordered 3/4 groove main bearings and new rod bearings in standard sizes. Also I got brass freeze plugs and a new cam plug.

I'm debating on what block filler to use or if I should do it at all,Moroso block fill is the cheapest, but maybe not the best,Hard block is supposed to be great and is cement based, but more costly, and Embeco 885 metallic grout is used sometimes, which is some kind of anchoring cement that can be bought at a Builders supply, but I haven't found any of this yet. I'm also worried of overheating in summer weather with block filler, but Bill seems to be happy with filled blocks.

This is true, but mostly on the bore ,mine is still standard bore, and I'm considering block filling, and just honing afterwards, but it is highly recomended to get it bored after block filling, but I don't want to spend the money for new pistons although I really should.

As far as the 1.7 rockers and maxpf engine working well? Last I saw on mikeyvons thread I dont think it has run yet to confirm anything

MaxPF confirmed there is valve clearance with the increased lift/duration with the 1.7 rockers. You can achieve similar results in lift/duraiton with a cam upgrade.

I did some homework on compression ratio and if stock was 21.3 then .010 off the deck will give me 22.6,this is assuming every thing else is stock with the heads and gaskets.

I can't find any embeco 885 in our area,so maybe I'll use Hard Block from Summit. I bought a Schwitzer turbo on ebay it is off a Cat 3116 it has a 57 mm inducer and high flow 6 blade compressor and high flow 10 blade turbine compared to Holsets 12 blade turbine,I hope its in better shape than my last ebay turbo.

Got one half of the block filled, what a pain, and what a mess, hopefully the other side goes better.

I'm hoping to get the mix just right on the other side, maybe do it in small stages so I can get it leveled better,I overfilled it expecting the extra to self level and come out the water pump hole, which it did with a lot of extra work with a coat hanger on the inside and a air hammer on the block. I would recemend doing a junk block just for experiance, as there seems to be a special skill required for this job.
