synth vs organic? opinions please

I ran Rotella dino & Delo dino for years with bypass filtration,(Amsoil adapted to Baldwin filts) now Amsoil filts & Amsoil synthetic, but have had excellent oil lab tests with both, IMO synthetics do one thing better than any of the dino oils, they don't pump back $$$ into the pockets of those that would do us harm.

Our good site friend Ashton (Wrecker) could use the $$$ :D, feed him he's a Navy veteran that protected the USA :patriot:., don't feed the camel rider that does not give a crap about the USA :mad2:

well guys..

ive switched, ive flushed and filled with mobil 1 TD full synth...

did you guys know the oil cooler and lines hold 3 quarts?!?!? had to buy another gallon cause of that!!

what am i saying?!!?.. ofcoarse you do.. anyway..

heres my outcome with doing the switch and running it for 120 miles today

negatives..
1) my engine is now louder all the time... ticking, tacking, dieseling
2) oil pressure dropped about 10psi when above 1000, normal below... at highway speeds, i was at a steady 45, now at 35
3) saw a drip under the truck, but i think thats the oil filter adapter seal.. have to verify.. never leaked anything before
4) CDR blows oil into the turbo/intake now.. never did before

positives
1) better power during spin up/accelerating...
2) maintains 65-70 effortlessly, more turbo whine
3) turbo is audibly happier, whines alot more now

no change
1) instant start up
2) cold knocking still lasts about 10-12 secs

should i wait it out and see if it improves/gets used to synth? or swap back out?

How did you flush it all out, maybe one of the connections isnt tightened up?

hmmmm.... good point, undid the lines at the block
and used compressed air into one to blow the oil out the other one

that was a friendly little "fwap" to the back of my head!! duh...lol

ill have to check.. easy enough..

ironic.. the lines are right on top of the filter adapter

With the system not closed to build pressure I dont think the air compressor is going to damage anything.

i just pumped enough pressure to push the oil out.. i was holding the nipple closed with my thumb.. so it was minimal.. better safe than sorry

I did the same when I put ne head gaskets on my jimmy to blow the oil out because it had antifreeze in it.

Intersting and dissapointing results? What weight Mobil-1 are you using? What type of filter?

First and foremost I noticed my engine ran quieter and smoother. Defanatelky quieter at startup. Mobil 1 0w-40.

Mobil-1 Oil filter also. No change in oil pressure.

thats the weight i put, but i used a fram

Fram huh? Why? I understand they are the bottom of the barrel filter. Do a search and read up on the quality. I guess it's too late now huh LOL.

yah, read about it AFTER all this happened.. :mad2:

but live and learn, it was either that or "champ" filters.. so i opted for the name

from what ive read, this might be the cause of the pressure drop

Just FYI, at Bitog, the Champ filter rated better than Fram. At least if it is equal, it is cheaper. I am not sure if they have a warranty, if you don't see the proper pressure may be able to claim warranty.

I've read the different additive package will have a pretty good clensing effect so be careful the first oil change.

I agree older engines like a bit heavier synthetic. I have a mitsubishi 4 cyl with 250K miles. The valves tap from wore out lifters on dino oil either sticky or just wore out not sure been like that for a long long time many dino oil changes. I even tried a little marvel mystery oil and Rislone additive a little before oil changes for a mild flush and still lifter noise. I added 1 quart of 0w-40 synthetic and it runs smooth and quiet. I am pretty sure it does this because the oil flows easier cold and maintains viscosity better when warm.

Syn for towing or hard working engines I would recommend. For a grocery getter with good maintenance its nice but too much money for me to spend. If I had more money to be a bit more frivilous I'd run it in everything I own. But since I don't I run dino oil with occasional syn between changes to help keep the engine a little cleaner and give the dino oil a boost.

Im surprised you went with 0W after being concerned the at all, I would use 5W.

Matt, what Mobil 1 filter part number did you get?

I'm looking at getting a 2 quart Wix filter for my 2wd, its huge.

the 0 was all they had, i was looking for 5w or 10w.. im going to try that.. see how that pans out.. im not really comfortable with the engine makins all this racket
