I disconnected my steering shaft inside the cab and in the motor bay to install a new hydroboost. Trying to put it back together and I can't get it to grow/lengthen 2 inches. Is there a trick to get it to lenthen? I have it disconnected in the cab and pushed it toward the firewall as far as it will go. Any thoughts?>

The shaft 5hat goes from the steering box to the intermediate shaft collapses. Over time they get rusty and don't move easily, but thats the one that extends out.

It isn't rusty it's a California truck. Would some pb blaster help? and if so where should I spray it?

Mines a Florida truck, and was surprised at how much rust was down inside the shaft. Also there is a spring in it that holds tension on it, so you're going to have to just pry it back up into place.

Be careful what you get PB Blaster, Brake Clean and other products on. Some will instantly ruin a lot of plastics and rubbers we have on our vehicles.

I've sen different brands of brake Clean melt plastic that was not affected by the previous can that ran out.
