ok so on sunday went to start my truck after loading some bricks and it just clicked like the starter was trying and nothin. had a buddy come pull me and i poped the clutch and got her going drove it home. bad starter under waranty so i replaced it tuesday worked fine started this mornin went to start it at noon and nothin again just a click had buddy pull it agian after work went to advanced had them test the electrical system all good starter is drawing what it should. only thing i can come up with is that there is something wrong with the soinoid any one have any ideas ganna try a nother starter on fri when they get one to swap me on warenty

I went through this with AUTOZONE and there rebuilt starter. The best thing you can do is to get rid of that starter and buy one from ACDELCO or get a POWERMASTER. If you still have your original you could get it rebuilt by a local starter shop as well. These mexican rebuilds SUCK! I REALLY hate em as they cost me money when I have to change em out under warranty for customers.

IM on my fourth, kept burning them out..... No starter bracket and no gps, are a bad combo:mad2:

I had this happen to me,, and it turned out that at the pass side battery,, the Little red wire that runs to the solenoid, was loose from the bigger wire at the battery terminal. I re-did the wiring,, at that connection, and no more problem.

So solonoid was engaging, but poor connection at battery couldn't get the draw to start her up. At least you had a standard shift to roll start...

Last time I replaced my starter (3rd unit) My main powerlead rotted off. I was just going to fix it, but that little solonoid screw snapped so I replaced it (already had the new unit).

So, if this happens to anyone else, just cut the solonoid wire and re-splice it so you have room to take the starter out and work it.

I've always liked Ford for having a separate solonoid that wasn't attached to the starter.

Somehting went on the starting system in my ford, so i bought another hi torque mini starter from a buddy and installed. My starter kept sticking ON:eek:. That is the worst sound you could possibly hear is a starter sticking on while your car is already running.:mad2: So all in all i dint need a new starter, it was only the stupid solenoid. I also had another blonde moment the other day while timing my car, i had hooked the timing light to cylinder two, which on a CHEVY is one. Piss me off, i couldnt get the damn thing times and then duh, wrong plug retread. Differences in the chevy and fords always screw me up when i try and work one either one....

found the problem needs a shim the starter and the fly wheel just arent engaging glad i found that was about to start redoing the wireing it needs that but i really dont have the time rt now

I have not touched the starter on my 6.5TD yet. But, I had a 350 I spent half a day shimming up the starter on that thing. It was a long day! :mad2:

Of course if I would have stopped drinking I could have done it in half the time. ):h

i put in 5/32 worth of shims and it still dosent mesh 100% of the time so im ganna try a little more shim and see what happens

Do you have the front brace on the starter? Seems like a lot of shim.
