I finally got my SUB to the point that I could drive it today. My problem is in 1st gear it runs like SHIT!!! You can give it roughly 15-20% throttle but that is it, any more and it falls off and begins to roll out blue smoke. It goes up to roughly 2700 RPM's and will only make 1.5 pounds of boost and just rolls out the blue smoke like no tommorrow. Let off and let it shift into second and HOLY SHIT BATMAN:D, she takes off:thumbsup:. I'm guessing this is a TCM problem, but mine is locked. I'm trying to get ahold of BRAYDEN to ask him since he did my TCM. This just seems like a TCM problem with it cutting torque since it runs so good in second and third(haven't gotten her up to see how she does in 4th or 5th yet). Just checking to see if anybody else here has run into this or not with a stock truck.

Can you log it to send Brayden a log file?

or did you only buy the tuning and not the EFI live software and hardware?

The ECM is stock with the exception of speedo corrected and the theft disabled. It's not burning oil or anything like that. The blue smoke gets worse as you give it throttle. I didn't have a laptop at the time of the test drive so I was sort of flying blind. It is wierd though that as soon as it hits second it clears and TAKES off. I did get a chance to scan it and 2 of the codes I expected from the swap, but I'm getting a P0748 and P0778 that were not there before the swap. I'm checking the harness now, but I didn't do anything to those circuits during my swap. The only thing I can think of is the tune that Brayden made me isn't playing nice with the DMAX and the torque reduction is shutting her down in 1st. I have the full EFILIVE, but it won't help me with the tranny as it won't do anything but read codes from it. And also according to my book the check engine light should come on for these 2 codes, but I have no check engine light. I'm wondering if it isn't setting these 2 codes due to low voltage while cranking since I'm only using 1 battery that isn't that great right now.

Well I dropped the pan and checked the A&B solonoids and they are fine and check out. SO I dug back in and got to the TCM and checked the A&B solonoids for resistance at the TCM plug and they are fine there as well. No shorts in the wiring to power or ground, but the P0748 and P0778 still pop up everytime I start her up. I'm still thinking all of my problems are with the TCM as it seems to be the only logical explanation fpr all of my symptoms. Hopefully I can get a hold of Brayden and figure this out.

Well I guess I should kick myself HARD for changing the injectors out. I went out today with the laptop and EFILIVE and started checking things over. It looks like injectors 1 and 7 are my problems. #1 varies wildly from -.3 up to -2.1 in park and jumps up to -4.3 all the way up to -5.6 in gear. # 7 is at 2.1 in park and 2.5-2.6 in gear. I guess this would also explain why it was idling rougher than I thought itr should as well. I also noticed that when it is doing it the timing drops down some, is this normal? I was able today to get it to pull up through 1st into 2nd, and it will also do this in second if you roll into just right. Once she clears out though she will MOVE.

#1 is marginal...

# 7 is in spec...

what I was told, is the engine uses fuel(via injectors) to compensate for other issues to try to smooth out the engine...not saying that it is something else and not the one seemingly bad injector...but could something else possibly be wrong to cause the injectors to add more fuel thus throwing the balance rates off?

I'm not getting any codes out of it for the engine, but the problem has gotten ALOT worse. I took it out for another drive since the wife wanted to go for a ride in it and it wouldn't hardly pull from an idle without surging, bucking and smoking HEAVILY(starts off blue and turns to white now). It does it in every gear now if you let it come off boost, but clears up for the most part once boost comes up to 4+. I have also developed a knock in it at idle now that is most pronounced in gear at idle. I wasn't expecting balance rates like this on reman injectors, wish I would have kept the old ones in her now. As soon as I get the laptop going again I'll go out and re-check it. But the problem is getting progressively worse and now I have a raw diesel smell out the tail pipe.

I haven't pulled my old motor apart yet but most of the gurus diagnosed my seemingly same problem as a bent or sheared Cam pin...

Mine started off with slight knock on the way hoime from Suncoast and then came the white smoke screen&raw diesel smell... but all but one of my injectors was a 7.0

I went from having two marginal injectors to 7 having high balance rates all at once... I'm not saying all of my injectors couldn't have let go all at once but is unlikely...

I know you can turn off injectors one by one with efi...you could turning off the two marginals to see if it stops the smoke and rough running first...

Most of my injectors are +-1.3 except for the 2. I know this engine ran good in the donor truck and the only work I did to it was headgaskets and injectors. Now I have running issues that fall into injector symptoms(I hope), and I have read a few post's lately about premature failures in PENSACOLA'S injectors over at the place. I'll go out tommorrow and do some testing by shutting down those injectors and see if I get the smoke clouds or not.

I forgot about the reman injectors......but LB7 injectors in general suck the big one...

I still cant see how that one injector could be causing all that smoke and it's not even topping out at 7.0...like I said... the other is marginal not gone, but I don't know if GM would even replace that marginal injector yet if it was under GM's warranty and the only one with issues...

Let me know what it does when you turn off the marginal and the bad one...

Well it seems #1 injector is DEFINATELY bad, and #7 is also right there. I drove it and I had lots of blue smoke that turned to white then cleared up when boost hit. When you shut down an injector the ECM defaults to limp mode, but my smoke almost completely dissappears when I shut down #1 and when I shut down #7 with #1 there was zero smoke. Also the sputtering and such I'm getting was exactly the same sputter and buck I got when I shut those 2 injectors down. So it looks like I'll have to tear back into this thing when I get back from my trip.

I selected 1 and 7 from the menu and it ran like a dog with no power, but the smoke stopped. Anytime I turn #1 on it smokes until it comes up on boost now.

Hmmm...

Don't know if EFI has changed or not since I last did this...but It would only allow you to turn off one injector at a time...I believe this is solely for our protection so that we don't create some huge imbalance and damage our engines...

Maybe some of our resident EFI gurus will chime in on this part...RidgeRunnerDiesel or Stacks04 (also GM mechanic extrordinaire)

I just did an oil change on it while I had it out, but it is still clean and doesn't appear to be moving the level any at all. I know when I shut #1 down almost all the smoke went away and then I clicked #7 as well and I could feel it die off a little more on the power and all of the smoke went away. As soon as I clicked it to turn em all back on the smoke started rolling out again. I did notice that the engine runs in limp mode per say as soon as I activated the check box for the injector test. It would pull up strong to around 2200-2500 and then level off and stay there.

Well I got my 2 replacements in and it's WORSE!!! Now it won't clear out for NOTHING!! I got on it a little and it just poured out blueish grey smoke and has a noticeable miss in it at anything other than idle. #1 went from a -1.1-1.6 in park to a -3.6-4.1 and in gera went from -5.3-5.6 to a-4.6-5.1. #7 went from a +2.3-2.6 in park and in gear to now itr's almost identical to #1's balance rates. If the numbers stayed the same I could see something else causing this, but the fact that the numbers changed makes me think it's an injector problem still. Pensacola said they would get me 2 more out today for TUESDAY, but I'm about ready to go down and buy a set of BOSCH ones and put in it and be done with it. I REALLY wish now I would have left my old high milage set in it and took my chances, at least they ran decent with only some minor brown hazeing under power. I can't even drive it now as it misses badly offf idle and smokes non stop.

Well I ran it some today HARD and it does clear up a little once it gets up to temp, but now I have a few balance rates climbing up. The 2 injectors I last replaced though are the highest out ones. I tryed doing a quick log of the balance rates in park and in drive to see what you guys think.
