Sorry, been neglecting my posting duties. Glad you guys were able to source the parts for the seals/kit locally and keep making some progress from the "...two steps backwards" event.
After we got to the stopping point Friday night, I took Les for a drive in the truck. Its always fun to get feedback on what's been done and he's ridden in the truck with the old motor. Thanks for the compliments. Sorry for almost getting us killed...twice though. Seems 'mashing' the loud pedal will produce, now and again, a stuck throttle situation. Caught off guard my first instincts, in order of priority, were:
1. remain calm.
2. don't scream like a little girl in front of friends.
3. don't piss pants (or anything else)
4. get this pig whoa'd up.
Brakes instictively but key off with Les, outwardly calmer than I was internally, repeating "key off, key off..." It didn't get any better after restarting either but after letting it sit to settle down (ok, to get my heart slowed down) it started again and acted like, "What?" No more issues. Of course I drove it more like a little old lady after that and stayed out of the throttle. Separate thread for the rest of this.
I'll swing through and say howdy again on the way back home Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully the Dodge will be done cause I don't think I can stand anymore original "Department of Corrections" comments about my coveralls.:hihi:
Side notes on my travels.
Saturday I drove up a few miles of 8-16% grade twisty road (CA-18) up to Big Bear Lake and spent a wonderful day with Big-T and his wife. We off roaded in Cody's Burb with the intent of locating some areas that would be suitable for an exercise I'm helping develop and found just what we were looking for. Then we got rid of a few bullets that happened to be in the vehicle. Today Big-T and I linked up with a friend of mine and Ted's (635) at the Winternationals in Pomona and enjoyed a day of vehicles producing a little bit more power than we 6.5ers will see without coupling about twelve of our motors. When I took him home he presented me with some 'lovely parting gifts' in trade...to include the Accelerator Pedal Assy from the wrecked 95. Thanks Steve, I'll get the winch bumper up to you on one of my return trips to Ft. Irwin and a big thanks for the help with the exercise. Hopefully the powers that be won't cancel it due to budget cuts.
Sorry for the side track Les and I'll keep you posted on travel plans so with luck we can link up again before you jet back to those balmy temperatures back home.
