POLL IDEAS

How about a poll on bundling thread categories that do not see much action. I always liked the fewer category method. I learned a lot of stuff I wasn't looking for because it turned up right in front of me and I read it.

A lot of 6.5 people hang out primarily there. They don't check the other forums so posting there sometimes is a waste.

I am not sure why some people do not venture out of the 6.5 section. Can you explain further? Do you want more organization? Or do you want less organization? I am not sure what you mean.

I'd go for less organization. Doesn't make sense to me to have a category that gets less than a post a day. If traffic picks up you can always add categories back in.

People have a finite amount of time. Often I only have time to scan one category - 6.5.

If somebody has a related question in suspension or lubrication that I could answer I'll never see it.

Sometime my time is limited and other times I have more time. Just like most people

6.5 people stay in the 6.5 section primarily because all the questions and answers related to their trucks are there. And by the time they get done there the time they have allotted to be on the internet that day is gone.

That's why I like the "New Posts" button, I read what I want, then read the rest later.

This stems back to DP where guys with 6.5's were looked upon as inferior because they didn't drive a DURAMAX truck. I know I was on the receiving end SEVERAL times of some well known guys over at DP back early on in it's days because I would post info in other secions besides the 6.5 section and I would be crucified as what could I know I only drov a 6.5. If ou go back to around early 05 at DP, you'll find some posts where the mods came in and told the 6.5 guys to stay in there own section and to not post outside of it. It just seems to have stuck since even though that was a differrent site, but many here came from there. Even though it isn't that way here and many 6.5ers now were never a part of that time, they still want to do things that way just because that's how it was done in the past.

Mods are trying to get traffic in other areas and make things more specific to get a general consensus rather than having the 6.5 guys and then everybody else. This site is for trucks in general, and the admin here is trying to generate traffic in specific areas, not just engine areas. I was floored when I heard that some of the 6.5 guys had asked about an OT section for the 6.5 section when we already have one for the site. It reminds me of kids in school, you have the clicks that run together and don't socialize with others unless they have to. I believe the admin here wants a more open site without the specific clicks.

I see what they are trying to do.

I just don't see the need for so many categories. The clicking on recent post thing works but if you don't show up for a few days or a week, you still have to do a lot of looking & you miss a lot of posts.

I don't see much need for any categories that don't average at least a post a day.

Off Topic can cover everything else.

I understand where your coming from Jeff. I very rarely if ever, venture into the 6.5 section, primarily because I do not have that specific truck, and I really do not have any knowledge or background for that truck. But I do use the buttons on top (New Posts and Today's Post) and if I come across something that peaks my curiosity, I look at it. Time is at a premium with me also, as I am sure it is for everyone. If I am looking for information on maintenance or suspension, I regularly visit those areas for information. Those areas are not specifically for a Duramax. If members label their threads correctly with a good title, in the maintenance or suspension sections, then it would benefit the forum and save on time if you were looking for information.

I personally feel that it takes more time to peruse through 1 section with multiple questions, posts, or topics, rather than go to 1 area for 1 specific topic looking for a specific issue. I guess I am kind of a more of an organized person.

I like the organizatinon as is myself. I used to be one of the 6.5L only, and then I believe a few mods encouraged exploration outwards. I then would scan over the rest of the forum. then, one slow day, when everyones 6.5 or 6.2L was running perfectly, I got bored and hit the new posts button. life hasnt been the same since! :) the thing I like about it is the fact that all threads with fresh activity are put in not just the new ones.

Nice. Thanks for the reply. That is what we were trying to get the membership to realize. We are one happy diesel forum with great members that has lots to offer. If we get a new member to sign up, and the member has a question regarding maintenance, we would hope to have all of the maintenance issues in one place (maintenance section of the forum) so they can find what they are looking for, rather than have them look through and entire engine section looking for a brake thread that is 6 pages deep in threads. We weren't looking to hurt or disrespect anyone, just try to better organize the forum so it best suits our members.

well, maybe you can segregate the "stock 6.0L powerstrokes are the best ever" club off by themselves, but yeah, the whole unity thing works out just fine with me!

The club section of the forum is just that, the club section.

Now, does anyone else have any poll ideas, or should we do away with that section?

On the topic of the title of this post, I am in favor of keeping the weekly poll thread. I always enjoy voting on it and reading what everyone has to say about it. It's kinda like sitting around the bar and getting everyones take on a subject. I like it a lot.

LOL. I thought my first post was a suggestion for a poll subject.

Looks like we had a nice little poll on the subject as it was.

I vote we keep the poles, Butt the musloms have got to go.
