Pinion Seal Leaking

My pinion seal is starting to sling some diff lube, not a lot but is making a mess. My question is this.....would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace the u-joints and the center support bearing while I'm at it? I got the truck in 2010 and it now has 140K. Not sure but I think they are all original parts. Other than the leak everything seems to be fine (no vibrations or noise). Being a '95 and 30 years old now.....would yall recommend replacing these parts "while you're in there" or just fix the pinion seal?
 
Welcome @LinePilot it would be cheap insurance to replace, but at least check them. when you pull the driveshaft off the rear yolk you can remove two of the caps. if it looks dry at all, it's time to replace them.

Oh and I see your from the great state of Texas! nice to see a fellow Texan join! if you don't mind me asking, what area are you in? I'm in Seguin, about a hop and skip away from San Antonio and New Braunfels!
 
Thanks for the welcome @dbrannon79. Been a member over at TDP for a few years, figured I would post over here and see how it goes. I'm in the Katy area just off I-10. What used to be a small town west of Houston is now pretty much a suburb of the Bayou City. It seems like they can't build new homes and businesses fast enough. Been through Seguin many times and I'm sure San Antonio is reaching out that way too.

I will check the joints and see it they look dry or not. Don't mind spending the money to replace these parts if they need it. Thanks.

That thought had crossed my mind. I would hate to replace good original parts with unknown quality new parts. But if they really need replacing I don't see a way around it. Just try to get OE parts......although sometimes you have to go aftermarket due to NLA or discontinued. It's a crap shoot for sure. Thanks.
 
Forgot to mention this earlier......the carrier bearing has a little steel strap on it, like in the pic here. It is broken....not sure what it does. Is that a big deal?

I believe that steel strap is mainly to hold the rubber insulator within the steel saddle affair during transport before installation.

Spicer U-Joints from an official Spicer dealer would most likely be the best brand of U-Joints. Mainly check for country of origin.
IDK if Spicer makes center carrier bearings, if so then that might be the best brand on that too.
The only way to check U-joints is to have the drive shaft completely removed from the vehicle, then rotate the joints within their bounds without removing them from their carriers.
If there is any rough or dry feel when moving the trunnions or yokes then they are due for replacement.
Center carrier bearing the same.
Also when replacing U-joints, after the trunnions are within their loops and the spring clip retainers installed, the U-Joints need to be centered.
By placing the drive shaft yokes upon a vice with jaws open wide enough for the trunion end of the shaft to fit loosely between the jaws then tappin the shaft so it forces the trunnions outwards against the retainer or snap ring.
Rotate 90* and repeat.
If a vice is not a available then a couple of 2X4 blocks of wood, on edge, laid on the floor and the yokes placed atop of those works just fine too.
Trunnions can be removed in the same manner after the snap rings/retainers are remkved.
